- What a splendid idea! The music is on point, the mechanics work, the voice over is pretty neat! (My apologies for interrupting the intro dialogue :D) I am looking forward to seeing more development on this game, there is potential there and it is fun to play! Well done, thank you and keep making games!
Did you include your Game Design Document in your downloadable files?
Yes
Tell us about your game!
Heretic is a 2D, top-down, tile-based simulation game set in a medieval fantasy kingdom where you play as a "Heretic for Hire" and engage in spreading heresy against the king.
You control the player Heretic with WSAD or arrow keys and "talk" with SPACE.
The aim is to spread your chosen heresy by converting Yokels as they wonder around and by natural word of mouth between them. Watch out though, as there is an Anti-Heretic from the King trying to counter your heresy! First to 300 Yokels converted will win!
Did you remember to include your Game Design Document?
Yes
Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
Yes
Extra Notes
I've added the option to play the game full screen as it can be a little small just in the in-page view. I've also included a linux build and will try to add a windows one as a fallback - however I will not be able to test the exe, so please bear this in mind.

Fun concept, good humor and even better voice acting xD
Thank you!
Really great concept!
My favorite part was honestly the narrative section at the beginning. I thought that was so funny and clever, and honestly wouldn't mind more of that sprinkled throughout an expanded game.
Also, this game has great potential for PVP!
Thanks so much - glad you enjoyed it!
Yeah, I think the story/narrative part could be a lot of fun and I've had good feedback around it!
PvP/Local co-op is definitely something I'm keeping in the back of my mind. If you were to play this with friends, how do you think it would be most enjoyable? Split-screen/party mode or as a online lobby type deal? Would love to hear your thoughts!
I think both options would be pretty cool. I have a general bias toward splitscreen (although I usually get less mileage out of those as my gamer friends live in different states).
I think there's a general lack of good splitscreen games across the board, and this could help fill that hole. I also think being able to physically see my buddy right next to me converting people could get the adrenaline going and make conversions feel more urgent. But on the other hand, online lobbies would make it more accessible for long-distance friends. I do think online mode would need more put into it to make it actually feel different than solo mode with a friend talking to you though, where splitscreen would instantly present differently as a game mode.
Thanks Erik! That's really helpful to hear your thoughts and I think I agree with the splitscreen idea being a bit more fun and adrenaline filled!
I've got an item on my roadmap to look into it now!

Very polished game, i especially liked the fade in of logos at the start. The controls are simple to understand, the music is pleasant. I really like how some people walk faster, so they are harder to convince, but that means they meet more people over time. Also the web build worked perfectly.
One idea to add to this i had is a shop keeper in a stand. Shopkeeper doesn't move, but people want to buy things so they walk towards the stand on their own.
Thanks for playing and the feedback! I do already have a plan for one type of grouping Yokels together a bit but I love your idea of a shop stand! I've added it to my list - thank you!
That's a great game idea! The fundamentals are really strong here, it would be cool to see you build upon it and see where this can go. You could also look into NPC behaviors, and they could affect the environment somehow if they grouped up. What if you could play on the other side too? Like, as the King themselves and you try to calm the masses and prevent the spread of rumors. There is so much potential with this one!
Thanks for playing! Yeah, I only had a few days to get this done so there are a lot more things I plan to do with it, beyond what I have in the GDD! What side you work for is already a somewhat formed idea in my mind, so watch this space! Congrats on your submission too!
lol. I am soooo good at spreading rumors! haha. This was a cool take on the 'its spreading' theme! Very nice game overall! Simple, to the point, and easy to play! Great work! Keep it up!! :D
Thank you!!
A clever interpretation of the theme. Very cute art, music and SFX! I feel that you could expand this game in many ways in the future, great job :)
Thank you! I have many plans for it!
We ended up with similar games. I really like how people stop to listen when you talk to them, and I like how you're competing against an opposing rumor.
Amazing! Happy to know I wasn't the only one who took it in this direction! Love your submission too, really good job!
Well executed and more addicting than I had anticipated!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for playing!
I skipped the dialogue at the beginning and now I feel guilty
Fun to watch the rumor spread
Good sound and clear visuals
Haha, the voiceover has gone down well so far! Thanks for playing!
Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlboss the game. Honestly I love so much about this, everything works perfectly together with the art and the sound effects and the music, especially the sound effects. The voice over at the start was also fun and made me know I was in for a good time. Really creative take on the theme executed elegantly and effectively, though part of me wishes there was more to it idk what there could be. Great submission!
Thanks so much for playing and the feedback! I've got a lot planned for it for after the Jam is done!
Cute art style and sfx, and a nice take on the theme :) Well done!
Thank you!!
Very nice interpretation of the theme! One of my team's ideas was "spreading rebellion," but we didn't have a solid idea for how to gamify spreading an idea so we gave that up. Nicely done!
Thanks! I'm very curious as to if anyone else hit on the theme in the same way!
