Description
Valley & Mountain is the soundtrack to a roguelike dungeon crawler with elements of city building games in the vein of Dark Cloud but also inspired by games such as Stardew Valley & Terraria.
You begin in a valley empty except for your house, and you must enter the mountain and explore its many rooms and dungeons to collect resources to build your town. As you build your town, more people begin to move to the valley and you begin to build up a community.
'Valley Theme/Build Mode' accompanies the player as they build their town and interact with the people living there and attending to their needs.
'Mountain Theme/Explore Mode' is for when the player ventures into the mountain to collect resources and explore the many rooms and caverns within.
'Shrine Theme/Challenge Area' plays when the player stumbles on many hidden shrines as they explore inside the mountain. These shrines are challenging puzzle areas with a fair amount of danger.
The music in this release was inspired by the soundtracks to Dark Cloud, Stardew Valley & Breath of the Wild, while the music features influences such as Ryuchi Sakamoto, Joe Hisaishi, Mike Oldfield and Breakbeat Heartbeat.
Artist comment:
I tried to get out of my comfort zone with this entry, how successful I was I don't know, but I'm very proud of what I ended up making.
Theme:
How does it fit the theme?
I wanted to tie two very different locations to two very different gameplay types. The picture helped inform the choice of location.

Valley Theme/Build Mode – This was an absolute joy to listen to. I would never leave this village. The reverb on the piano gives a realism, but when contrasted with the synth sounds, it gives the atmosphere of a game with beautiful animations in a location that is meant to make you feel very safe and comforted. This is probably my favorite single track I’ve heard so far!
Mountain Theme/Explore Mode – These flavorful chords make this loop intriguing and exciting with each repeat. This is great exploration music for the light-hearted game you describe.
Shrine Theme/Challenge Mode – I love the prominent use of the piano throughout your OST. Each track also has a high pedal tone that ties all the chords together so that while there is a lot of compositional interest, there are not any jarring surprises, which further adds to the success of these tracks in conveying the type of imagery you decide. Thank you so much for your work and for sharing!
"Mountain Theme" gets little repetive for my tastes, but I love "Shire theme"! Nice work.
Great stuff! These pieces have a really nice feel, I especially enjoyed Shrine Theme.
Definitely see the BOTW and Stardew influence! Very good composition, nice color presented by the sound choices.
You got me right away with the first song
These pieces are so lovely and wonderful. I LOVE your tracks very much
The dancing of instruments happening in each ear, the color palette with the instruments you used are just so ✨✨✨
Nice cozy vibe! I love the use of mellotron flutes
Very nice track well composed, good work!
Amazing compositions. I love all the themes, the leitmotifs are very clear and hummable :D
I like that both the build and explore mode are cheerful but calm. The shrine/challenge music is giving off mysterious feeling without sounding intimidating or dangerous, an awesome direction! I love the piano lines ostinatos too. Amazing work!
Great job! I absolutely adore the valley theme in all its simplicity and coziness and could absolutely see this playing in the background of my "home base". I thought the Mountains theme didn't quite manage to capture the sense of uncertainty that I was expecting from it. The shrine theme totally does, though.
I really enjoyed this!! The melodies were lovely, and the songs each represented their titles well! Nice job!
Cohesion between the pieces is great. Great way to get the most out of similar instrumentation and motifs. I think it fits the game you are describing VERY well. Bravo!
I can hear that the pieces belong together. That slightly dissonant little element in the LH with the half step interval sets the general mood and cohesion throughout. Good work with the dynamics, too!
