Description
Cyberpunk

Message from the artist:
This is my first time mastering and all my audio equipment isn't exactly top-of-the-line, so any constructive criticism on the mastering specifically would be highly appreciated!

How does it fit the theme?
In this hypothetical arcade shooter, you are an assassin in the alleys of Night City, music blasting and bouncing all over the place and cheering you on. These are four of those songs.

1. Ready N' Loaded!
This track is the menu theme. A tight bassline and simple drum pattern invite you to mow down some targets!

2. DIE BY ME!
This track is the main gameplay loop. whistles whine and drums get their faces beat in as you take out one of your new target's lackeys after the other. Towards the end, an alternate mix kicks in when health is low. the track becomes muffled, slower, and lower pitched, as a fast, heavy beat helps the player feel the same panic and adrenaline as their character.

3. Aw Man!
This track is a game-over theme—a spartan, dreary beat races in your head before you hit Retry.

4. Oi Scotty!
This is the body mod shop's theme. As this game's upgrade system, this mod shop is the perfect place to increase the cyber in cyberpunk. A calm set of pads and a strong bass riff calm you just enough to help you stomach getting more metal and circuitry get jammed into you, but not enough for your heart to slow down enough to kill you!

I really like it when these OSTs have environment building tracks, like Aw Man! and Oi Scotty!, really helps build the world around the menu and gameplay tracks. Also really like the low health part in DIE BY ME!, all around really great stuff!

Some gritty cyberpunk tunes throughout, and cool tempo changes. 3rd track is especially crunchy. 4th track has to be my favorite, love the progression. Great work!

Ready N'Loaded - Cool opening. I'm ready :D

DIE BY ME! - Nice and rough. I'm always a sucker for distorted resonance. Make those synths rawr. I really like how you handle the low health situation. It indeed feels like we're in trouble. I can imagine that really adding some sense of urgency too, once you start hearing that. Also really like that you faded back.

Aw Man! - Nice. Very rough tones. But I guess that's to be expected if we just got blasted to smitherines :D

Oi Scotty! - Cool tune.

Cool soundtrack!

The “low health” mix is really clever. :)

I loved how you made an alternate mix for low health, that was a very good idea and honestly I'm a little jealous I didn't come up with a similar one.

Some very interesting ideas here! Some of the variations sat back a little far in the mix but otherwise really good.

loved it! Try experimenting with reverb and dynamics to make everything feel a little more alive, otherwise good :)

The first part loop on DIE BY ME! is a true banger

DIE BY ME! is the best one among them! In my opinion of course, good job!

Each track has a unique feel. I also like the transitions between sections within tracks, especially in DIE BY ME.  The shop theme is great, too. Makes you expect all sorts of mechanical body parts for sale. Nice work!

  1. Perfect theme for a menu, introducing with the general sound of the game!
  2. DIE BY ME - damn, that bass line catches you unprepared, a real banger. This music would work as a backdrop for lots of genres
  3. I think it works well as a game over track, as it sounds like the bass line kinda “mocks” you for your failed attempt, if you know what I mean 😄
  4. Very mellow, love the crushed bass tone, but still, the track is super zen in the background while you’re minmaxing your build!

I’m not really competent regarding mixing or mastering, and I this is all subjective, but I think this genre of music can be definitely mastered louder. you were hitting ~14 LUFS which would be great for spotify (while soundcloud doesn’t care about the loudness) or for more dynamic music, but electronic music sounds better LOUD 😄, but the tracks topped out at ~ -5 dB, while you should be aiming for -1 dB or so.

Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, anyone. I don’t want to give incorrect advice, i’m just writing from my own experience and POV.
