Description
I used Logic Pro X and Native Instruments MIDI files to compose original pieces using my Yamaha DGX-670 electric keyboard. These 4 songs create a small snapshot of an OST for an imaginary Indie Fantasy Narrative Walking Simulator called "Irish Goodbye". The concept of the songs in their order (Tavern Bardsong, Liminal Spring, Irish Goodbye Epilogue, and Light of Hope) are broad strokes trying to paint a picture of a man who sets off on a journey of self-discovery through a dark and surreal primeval forest. Before he can make it through the forest, he must encounter different fairytale personifications of himself, that he must defeat and then assimilate.

A very relaxing and charming soundtrack! All of these tracks have a pleasant gentleness to them which is a welcome change of pace for this jam. My favorite track was probably Light of Hope although I loved the folk vibe in Tavern Bardsong. This was a beautiful submission, great job!

Love the folk style melody in the first track - it would fit in really well in a folk session, and I love the ornamentation! All the tracks hang together really well as a whole, and are just beautiful - well done!

Each track was so pretty! Your piano playing was very emotional. I think the soundtrack was missing some moment of tension or darkness (like for the encounter with the creature of malice) since the whole piece stays in this really calm and serene mood, but you did calm and serene really really well!

From one NI folk instrument user to another, nicely done! I think one way to get some of that melancholic theme your looking for out of music that is so peaceful is to layer a little but of contrast in the background. You can keep the same themes but turn them from somewhat serene and jovial into more of a nostalgic gut punch, or a lie, or anything really

Day 4 of Rating Submissions with few ratings to hopefully get some in return.

I expected something entirely different under the title. The instrumentation under the first track does remind me of Ireland with its abundance of plucked strings, but it feels less Celtic as it goes along.

Having said that, I can't express why but Light of Hope hit me right in the feels. Why these relatively simple piano chords and notes hit me like that I cannot comprehend, but either way, hats off to you.

Right on dude! I checked out your jams, I'm a big fan of Home Sour Home, and City Streets especially gives me a Cowboy Bebop vibe that I really dig. I like the variety of songs and gives me the liminal feel that your game would explore drastically different environments through a single playthrough. I just got around to listening to your jams, and I think you nail the vibe of being underwater perfectly. The ambient reverb definitely surrounds you in that floaty watery kind of feel \m/ \m/

I'm always in awe of really disciplined music since my own output is kind of in a rush all the time to just get quantity made. Tavern's Bard Song is a supreme example of a very tight job and beautiful at the same time. I also really liked the way the cover art is split into sections, I do that a little bit with my own just because Life of Rixlor is set to be a binary-genre game between the waking world and dreams. Nice work!

I just got around to listening to your OST, and I think the midi sounds and effects you picked are perfect. I could hear those sounds in Mario 64 or other games around that 90's era of gaming. I also think the name Rixlor is a great name and gives me that 80's vibe haha. I think a lot of the songs are a little busy though, like if you stripped back some of the melodies or simplified some of them, you could give the songs a lot more room to breathe and maybe sit in the background more if that makes sense? Either way, I think you nail the tone very well \m/ \m/

The imaginary game for this imaginary OST is called Irish Goodbye, a surreal narrative-driven walking simulator where a man is lulled into a primeval forest to defeat and assimilate 3 different symbols of his inner self: a creature of malice and violence, a woman of terrible and destructive beauty, and finally, a child that can never grow old.

The melodies generally represent the themes of setting off on adventure (Tavern Bardsong), being enraptured with the initial thrill of the unknown (Liminal Spring), a transition into meditative and transformative sadness after encountering the destructive and magical brutality of the forest (Irish Goodbye Epilogue), and finally a song of triumph as the man emerges out of the primeval forest as a fully integrated whole (Light of Hope)

I think this playlist would benefit from more melancholy melodies / sad themes to convey more struggle throughout this imaginary narrative, but this is a taste of an idea that could be.
