Great pixel art and fun gameplay! That's a great entry. Good job!

This is a fun little game! Good job making it in one day. I never got to see the darkness mechanic till I dodged the feathers on purpose, but it's very cool. Those vertical segments with the ledge are brutal!

Developer

It was challenging to balance the meter for the darkness mechanic. Ideally I wanted most players to experience the effect during their first couple of playthroughs, but at the same time I wanted it to be possible to keep it filled up if you kept on top of feather collecting.

That vertical piece is definitely a run killer. I think the best strategy is to get to the middle bellow both ledges on the ground and fly straight up, but it's usually what gets me in the end as well. :P

Yeah it seems like a hard one to balance out; There was this one section with the feather below a floating platform, and that was the only time my bar almost ran out- perhaps more sections like that would make it easier for players to experience the effect? And you can keep it filled up if you remember to take the right path too.

Ah yes I did  figure that strat out! but due to my shoddy execution, sometimes still ended up taking me down at times.

Another aspect of the game I liked but forgot to mention earlier, was how flying upwards without holding left/right makes you gain more height. Makes you have to think more about which option you're going for.

crazy that you made this in 24 hours. it’s way more fun than it has any right to be and your pixel art is lovely. great use of the limitation, too.

This is an amazing game and it's so cool that you managed to make it all work in one day! I was absolutely horrible at the game but that did not stop me from trying so many times because it was fun :)

I was really bad at this game. I'm glad I read your comment below Holding the  Jump button down was a game changer for me. Well done especially for such short time to work on it.

It's a good flappy bird. The concept is very well carried out; but it's a bit sad for the character who tries not to be swayed by the darkness. If you get to continue it, give it an ending XD

The darkness gets us all eventually. ;)

I am so bad at this game :(

There are a few tips in the instructions.

Holding the jump button down instead of tapping can help, and remember that you only have air control when flapping your wings. Whenever you first leap off the ground the direction you hold will influence the direction of flight faster than changing direction in the air. In some cases it's better to fly straight upwards instead of holding right to get more height.

Hope this helps if you care to try again. ;)
