The game looks very good, I like the arcade style. Jumping feels good und the leopards are well balanced; I feel like the pose a challenge and are not completely predictable but can still actually be avoided. I didn’t even notice that there was no walking animation until I read the comments.

That was very fun, and I love how the baby gorillas stack up on your back. I really enjoyed the retro style gameplay, it reminded me of games like donkey kong and pac man. The graphics worked really well and even the text along the top gave it a nice arcade styling. Here are some ideas/thoughts...
- a banana powerup, when you get it it works like a power pellet in pac man, allowing you to go into ape mode and knock out the leopards.
- it is kind of weird that the lepords dont attack the babys but it makes sense for the gameplay, not sure how to message that better to the player.
- would be nice to see more stage variety as the game progresses. maybe mix it up with some different enemy types, or hazards to avoid.
- you can use the release build of littlejs for better performance and it will remove being able to press escape to bring up the debug mode.
- some animation on the main player would go a long way, even if it was just a 2 frame cycle like the lepords.
Great work on this game! You should consider putting it on newgrounds with some achievements for people.
Hi,
I understand this is an endless game, I liked it!
The theme is well explained. The sounds are good. The graphics are nice.
The gameplay is well immersive and keeps the attention - good job! I like how the leopards appear in the bushes and how they prepare to jump :).
At some point I became immortal :). That is, extra lives started to accrue for every child I saved, I think I gained more than 5 at a time, maybe because of that.
I like how the gorilla holds the children on top of him. Maybe it would be good to consider their hit-areas also when jumping? :)
As a possible improvement, it would be nice to have a cooperative mode, or even a 2-person multiplayer, similar to the game Fireboy and Watergirl. They can play for one team, 2 gorillas saving children, or whoever saves the most quickly :).
It was fun and really interesting, congratulations!
Great work, it really feels like a classic arcade title.
I've managed to rack up a pretty good score I guess (>90,000 pts).
Leopard's movement is convincing and unpredictable - in a good way.
The only thing missing are movament animation for papa (or mama?) gorilla, and maybe background music.
I liked the baby gorillas clinging onto the big gorilla! I guess you just didn't get around to it, but would be nice to see sprite animation for the gorilla too when it walks / runs.
that was a neat little arcade game done pretty faithfully in the style of some of the earliest arcade games. the gameplay is pretty simple and it may seem limiting to some people, but i did have to think about my positioning due to jabali's limited moveset. i noticed that the levels started to loop, which is a great and resourceful idea for a game jam game, but i think it would've been amazing if the game somehow escalated in subsequent loops. more enemies, more hazards to avoid, more things to collect, with those i feel like this would be a great arcade title!
I love the classic arcade feel. I think the LittleJS engine is very suited for making retro-styled games. If you were going to add something I would add a way to fight back against the leopards, if only to temporarily stun them. Great game!
the first level was the hardest. Maybe it just took me too long to understand that the leopards aren't actually chasing me :)
