  • Theme

Tale of vengeance with bad grammar, emulating 80s style of gameplay. I guess it works.

    Gameplay

Standard JRPG. I think the difficulty spikes tremendously fast especially since I’m just one character. 3 Slimes destroyed me. Goblin ate all my resources, all in the first 5 minutes. Too much grinding involved just so I can have enough money to get myself gear. IMO not on a great start especially when a judge only has 1 hour to play these games.

    Presentation

Gradient bar together with everything else retro is very jarring. The squares are  confusing and the overworld map kinda overpowered my senses. Not sure if I like this aesthetic.

    Engagement

It’s a good retro RPG that it tries to emulate but honestly? I’m not a huge fan over this type of gameplay. I hate grinding needlessly at the beginning. I want to have fun first then we can talk about grinding. I don’t like how it’s written even though I understand why it’s like that. I had a harder timer processing what they’re saying because of it. The battle scaling is unnecessarily tough on the get-go especially since I have a short time frame to garner what is going on.

The atmosphere is so good and I LOVED the humor. I enjoyed this game and wanted to get through it all, but I couldn't due to an error. I tried closing and reopening, ending and loading, but the game kept giving me the message of a missing file. I tried skipping the message, but it kept coming back up. I dared to sit through it all but got until the second part of the cave before I had to stop. What do you think can be wrong? If the message can be fixed, I'd like to try again, but want to give everyone else a shot too in the meantime.

In addition to a fix to this problem, I'd appreciate the time to play my game too! I wish us both luck in this contest.

Thanks for playing my game, and thanks for spotting this bug. It's a sadly simple problem, the released version of the game is missing a sound file played only when you flee/escape a battle. Unfortunately as I understand it you can't upload any changes to a game, even bug fixes, until the judging period is over. In my own testing the prompt stopped if I exited the game and re-opened it, though it reappears if you try to escape again. If you don't want to deal with closing and re-opening every time you run, I completely understand. Thanks for the comment, I'll be sure to play your game later.
