Witch Hammer is a turn based strategy game based on the book Malleus Maleficarum / Hammer of Witches that first appeared in Germany in 1486.

Your goal is to stop the spread of the Malleus Maleficarum book across Europe and finally to Salem in the Colonies.

Through various actions that you can add to the cities, your job is to stem the flow of this book and ideas through affecting stats for you and your community (City Contentment, City Fear, City Distrust, Church Authority, Church Influence etc.).
I've used Unreal Engine and open source art. The music and sound effects are by the excellent Avery Stemmler.

Welcome to Witch Hammer!
If this is your first time through, there are some things you need to know.

All the tiles on the map are main cities during this period.

They all have specific stats that are either more for the Malleus Maleficarum or against it.

Your goal is to gain more cities where the 'Cohesion' stat reaches 100%. This is anti-Malleus Maleficarum.

If a city is for the Malleus Maleficarum, you will see the 'Authority' stat continue to grow. Once it grows to 100%, that city is fully in enemy territory and you will not be able to change it back.

When you click on a city (tile - go ahead and click on one) you'll see the stats in the city.

If you click on 'Add Actions', you will see a screen of current actions on the city as well as available actions that you can place on the city.

Drag and drop an action on the city, save and end the turn and you'll see how the action will affect the city.

You get three actions per turn (to add actions to cities) to try to keep the book from spreading to Salem.

I added 3 actions to a city in the first turn (I think it was Basel). I then spammed the end turn button until about 1750 when I window popped up saying I won.

It seem that you have over scoped in your project design. It would benefit more from simplifying the game mechanics being introduced to the player over time with the overall complexity. Basically start small from the core which is your basic game concept. Then add changes to your initial game design and observe the affects it has on the gameplay (through user feedback).


Overall interesting turn based strategy game mechanic to investigate. Well done.

It was a bit hard for me to get into, but eventually I think I got it down and had some fun with it. :) For some reason the game makes my sound monitors act up, so I had to turn off the sound. No idea why. Overall, a fun and ambitious game, and you did a good job I think. :)

Overall it was an interesting concept, some of the gameplay was a bit hard to understand, and there is a few very visible typos, but I do see promise in the game, with a bit more polishing this could be a pretty good game with some interesting mechanics, I bet if little events were added this would be fascinating.
