The game is working again now - there was an itch.io bug which prevented the game from loading.

The shooting mechanic is perfect. It took me three goes to get 212. Not sure about typing in the name (I googled it) as it takes you out of the game. The final 'mission' was a bit of an anti-climax after the shooting range, maybe a bit more of a lead-in to raise the tension before you get to shoot.

Really well executed puzzler with hidden depth to the gameplay. Nice fit to the theme too. Went through all the levels as was determined to finish it.

Really enjoyed this. Burst out laughing several times - great sense of humour and very slick use of the assets. I can't vote unfortunately but great job!!

No plans at present.  I would have to get agreement from Dr. Sabin. He did help with playtesting Hell's Gate - we played each other by screen sharing over Zoom which worked quite well.

There is now a browser version of Scéal (at the top of this page).

Enjoy!

Thank you for the nice words! I will add your links to the game page.

The monogame folks have been working on WebASM support for a few years and released a working template last week. I rebuilt my existing monogame game against this new version.

See: https://community.monogame.net/t/timeline-for-mono-aot-webassembly-export/12548/...

v2.0.3 for Android uploaded. Added a button to show the complete image for the next event. Also added a popup hint for the Window and for the new button.

v2.0.2 for Android uploaded. There was a small but serious bug which ended the game prematurely. This is fixed in v2.0.2.

Scéal - The Story Of Ireland takes you on a journey through the entire history of the island of Ireland.
Starting at 30,000BC with the first settlers, you progress through seven eras until the declaration of The Republic Of Ireland in 1949.

An Android App version has just been released.
There are also versions for Windows, linux and MacOS.

v2.0.1 uploaded. This fixes a small but critical bug which sometimes caused the game to crash when activating the end of era tile.

I found some info here: https://www.mobygames.com/game/zx-spectrum/1984-a-game-of-government-management-
In 1984 you played as prime minister - it was a sort of economics simulator - which is quite different to your game but it reminded me if it anyway.

I added 3 actions to a city in the first turn (I think it was Basel). I then spammed the end turn button until about 1750 when I window popped up saying I won.

That's impressive work for 1 week!
Wasn't sure of the historical context, but you've captured a certain feel.
I like the way the options expand with new all caps words appearing as you go along.

Désolé, je ne parle pas très bien le français. (Merci Google Translate :)).

As I said above, my French is not great but I was able to pick up most of the story.
It would help if there was a longer delay for the on screen text for non native speakers.
The gameplay itself was fun - the scaling on the crabs was clever.
I easily stomped them or cooked them with my fire breath without any apparent damage.

Bon travail!]

I liked this. The graphics have a certain charm. It's a bit clunky trying to jump - particularly up to the top of the tree - but it works.
Those rocks are pretty lethal LOL! - but not as lethal as the daggers thrown by those big guys.

Good variety of puzzles to get past - I particularly liked "trap ha! ha!" - that made me laugh - it's funny only because you don't die from the fall - if I died from that I probably would have rage quit :).

Well done!

Interesting to find out this history and to know how recent Malaysia got independence.

In terms of a game, maybe you could give some choices to the reader to engage them more.
Like a teacher interrupting your 'class' to ask  "Who invaded Malaya in 1942" just to see if the reader was paying attention.

Nice map graphics - good contrast between the map and the player graphic.
I think I explored the whole map and didn't find anything - it's a bit difficult to see what the barriers are and what are valid routes; there was no way into the village that I could find.

The itch install failed for me also but direct download worked. I've had the opposite happen too for other entries - direct download fails, but itch download works.

I though maybe it was because .rar was assigned to be opened by a Corel app but I reassigned it to 7zip and it still wouldn't work.

I think I had these issues in HAGJ4 too so I think its an issue with the itch app.

Good work on the map - maybe needs to look more 1840s-ish though.

I couldn't run it from the itch app either but downloading directly works fine.

Needs some quests and more direction for the player.

Nice graphics and great movement control. I like the extra combats going on in the background and foreground. I found it pretty easy to wipe out all enemies using the mouse to swing.
Game elements are in place - you need more enemy variety.

I managed to install the game via the itch app.  Didn't seem to be able to shoot anything with Left Mouse Button. The top down view was well done - I would have liked it zoomed out a little bit more so I could see more of the map - otherwise you need a mini-map display or choosing where to go is just guesswork. I think the white birds were the emus - I thought there were geese at first - they didn't move or do anything and I couldn't shoot them - did I miss something?

I got the same issue - I was able to browse through the zip contents, but cannot extract the files to a folder.

Great choice for the jam. Reminded me of a really old Spectrum game called 1984 where you had to run the UK government.
I liked the mechanics for layout out the pamphlet and briefing the MP candidate although there was a bit of a disconnect between the letter typing and the theme.
I had trouble with the canvassing - maybe the houses are too small?

I played from the download by the way as it was better than the browser version.

Great presentation and very detailed - all 120 crew members listed!!

I wasn't able to control the ship though - it scooted off very fast to the right once I unpaused.
Then my crew starting dying off and the game crashed.

Has potential once the player can control the ship.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. You created a great sense of atmosphere and mystery.
Great choice of backgrounds and other graphics.

The story unfolds gradually and I liked being able to choose my degree subject etc, although the choice for the player otherwise were limited. The game ended unexpectedly when I chose one of the 3 pictures in the hidden room - I guess that is as far as you got.

I would come back to try again when its finished to see where the story goes.

I downloadloaded it and boy am I glad I did that. Absolutely brilliant! My favourite part was pretending to touch type the news reports - even crossing my hands  over etc - my son was not amused :).

The choice of events are really apt - Apollo 13, Brasil winning the world cup, population  exceeds 4 billion.

And the totalitarian undercurrent is done so well. Events that happen off screen are so powerful.

I bow to your talents!

Great idea. The people models are really great - not sure if you did those yourself.

It runs very sluggishly on my PC - I don't have a great graphics card unfortunately, so the controls a re a bit sluggish and there was a delay before sound effects played - even for the buttons on the menu.

I think the timer only needs seconds - just show 35 instead of 35.123423 etc

I never got enough points to attempt a rescue but that was down to my PC.

LOL thanks for that - I needed a good laugh.
To return the joke, I'm giving 4 stars for Historical Accuracy!

This has a lot of potental. I liked the voxel graphics. There's a few problems though - the text for the quest from the King went way too fast for me. I think it said find 5 warriors with white skin but I didn't see any - hard to tell them apart. The control is a bit sluggish too - I had to click multiple times to get my guy to go where I wanted.
Everybody looks the same - maybe give the different tribes different head dresses or something.

Nice idea and curiously satisfying to finish off the Terracotta army.

Well implemented - the animation for the main guy is amusing - particularly at the start when he pops out from behind the building.

Downloaded tried to play but and it hangs on the LOADING screen.

Very nice graphics for the game. Control are a little confusing. A,D,E, and F + space to jump I think.
F1 for fullscreen did not work for me which would have made the tiny text more readable.
A little bit of work on the level design and controls would make this more interesting.

Impressive FPS game but looks like my gun was filled with blanks! Couldn't seem to shoot a single enemy.

Good twist on the point and click graphical adventure style. I'm guessing the images are from the Bayeux tapestry. I went through the book and filled my inventory with stuff which left me with too many options to solve the puzzles. Maybe introduce the texts in the book gradually so it seems more logical. Also, could do with more feedback in the interface - like knowing which 'mode' I'm in - eye, mouth etc The speech bubble got in the way a bit too and was annoying to remove.

Nice style to the game - needs some quests or something but definite potential.

There doesn't appear to be any download on the game page - has it been removed?

This is a well implemented platformer - the graphics are well drawn, the controls are smooth and usable even for a left hander like me and I particularly like the enemies gettings stunned by the hits.

Needs a but more variety in the levels as they need more challenge as you go along, but the basic elements are there.

I had fun landing on the legionaries' heads and stabbing them from above.

It wasn't clear whether those dice were being rolled or not. I managed to make all the goods types but when I went to the shop, it said I didn't have any even though the stock numbers were all > 0.
Also, it wasn't clear what the rival company was up to - so there was no urgency - I could jst sit there all day, generating more and more pelts etc
