I have a lot of fun playing this game! I am a big fan of platformers and thought it was executed very well! The only thing I would have done different was included something in game to let the player know what actions they had unlocked. After the 3rd star it took me a bit to figure out I could now jump while sliding on walls. Also, after unlocking the wall slide jump I was able to get to the heart before collecting all of the stars by just jumping up the wall in front of it until I went over.
All in all I really enjoyed playing it and thank you for making it!
I loved the audio and animation, it’s very smooth. I love playing Platformer games. I have updated the ratings… Please rate my game too…
Not bad for a game in just 2 days 😊!
Gameplay
As explained in your devlog, it's nice to be able to unlock a new ability each time and then use it immediately and get further and further. Handy to see & discover what you can do after each star.
Level structure is also nicely made. The controls were a little less easy in my opinion. The wall jump was not very smooth. Wall jump is always a difficult move to get smoothly.
Would have been nice if there were more levels and abilities. I understand that this was not possible within this time frame but maybe for a future update😉.
Graphics
Solid pixel art. Animation of the main character is nice. Some particle effects when walking or jumping could give some more polished look.
Audio
A background track would have been a good addition. Especially in a retro 8-bit classic style 😁. Matching the art. Walking SFX is good, but an effect at jump would also have been a welcome bonus for example.
Theme
Upgrading your abilities fits the theme well!
Devlog
Nice devlog with how you had in mind to make the game and setting up the levels. Also some pictures to clarify. Cool!
Short game but a fun one and I think a good foundation, in 2 days, for a somewhat longer game 💪.
Honest feedback is always welcome thank you
pls Rate My Game
already did my man
Rated your game, hope you would rate my game too…
I thought this game was really fun! I enjoyed progressing through the map and finding the new areas and revisiting old areas with the enhancements that you get. The wall jump did feel a bit off sometimes, like I would jump normally sometimes and then not very far at all other times, although that could just be me doing it wrong lol.
Nice game. Hope you would rate my game too…
Platforming feels really good, and a teaching process that you mentioning in devlog is solid, nice work! It would be interesting to see what would happen with the game if you had all the time
Love it when games make you revisit places that you've already been but with new abilitys so props on the level design , took me a few attempts to get to the end but it kept me going wondering what the next ability would be so good job. My only real criticism would be the running sound was a little too loud and realistic if ygm haha but regardless, good entry!
Oh also great devlog! Love to see one with pics in , mine was a little half assed
Thanks for the feedback.
I actually just realized that you the dev behind "Fragile Goods" I played that game it was super fun.
Looking forward to playing this new game of yours
Hahah ooh nice , Great to hear people have played my games haha Yeah enjoy!
I'm extremely picky about platformer jumps so take it with a grain of salt if you'd like, but personally I found the jump too floaty. The walljump felt also inconsistent, to some extent, but that's the nature of walljumps, they never quite work how you think they should I find. Minor annoyance was the game starting with the ability to move right but your description saying it'd be the opposite :) Also at some point the cricket loop ran out, and i saw a few strange pink squares pop up at the bottom of the screen a couple times. No idea what the latter's about.
It's a really solid idea for a game I think - the idea of building up your platformer character piecemeal is cool and is a good use of the enhance theme. You did a great job with the overall platformer level design I think, would be cool to see what else you could add!
You have raised good points, I had all of these in mind as well.
The pink squares are remnants of what was initially the enhance items during prototyping. I removed their material and forgot to remove them. Hence the Unity missing material pink.
love the idea, very good one with the ENHANCE theme, love it the gameplay so muxh x3
Ayyy I like the game'.
The gameplay was fun - the platforming's solid. The jump on the moving block was a bit hard but I got it after a while. Getting the ducking star was REALLY hard; I kept trying to slide off the platform on top into it until I thought about walljumping off that wall. Maybe it could have been more clear how to reach it.
Talking about being clear: I really like the invisible tutorial. The way you go forward to a dead end to then be forced to go backwards, to be in a pit to be forced to jump, etc.
Oh - and fyi, you don't need the ducking star. You can walljump over the wall separating you and the heart.
Gameplay aside the graphics were REALLY nice however I'm taking away points for taking em' online rather than making in the jam. The sound effects were really nice but the constant background noise was pretty ehh'. It did stop when I colllected the heart and it made for a really good atmosphere with the silence and the sound effects.
Overall - really nice! Good job!
Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.
And yes you are right I accidently removed the top collider that stopped player from wall climbing to the end point. Good Catch!
