Really clever idea, and unique as far as I know. Great submission!
The combination of games I never expected. My first round, I ran out of ammo. My second round, I played the match 3 round with intensity. Walking through the maze step by step reminded me of really old RPGs. Using up my well-earned bullets was fun. The minimap was really useful. I liked how I could see patterns in the map so I would remember if I've been there. Not to mention the yellow square was an obvious point to seek out.
This is such a fun and clever melding of two very different genres! It was even better on a second play through trying to get enough ammo to make it further through the maze! That SMG eats through bullets so dang quick.. lol. Great submission, and definitely on theme!
Interesting combination. I had some issues selecting a gun with my trackpad (the scroll was quite sensitive). Having keyboard shortcuts for the guns would have really helped there.
I really enjoyed the idea that the winnings from the Match3 meant resources in the FPS! Really clever!
- I found myself a bit lost in the FPS map, even with the minimap! I found myself getting turned around and backtracking, perhaps because of the size of the map? Or perhaps because they were all narrow corridors and the textures were the same? That being said, I haven't played many FPS games of this style, so it could just be user error!
- The controls in the match 3 weren't intuitive to me. But again, I've only played one or two Match3 games on mobile (unless you count Puzzle Bobble 😅), and those all use swipe to swap items. Perhaps a brief tutorial indicating whether I click one to highlight and then click another to swap, vs swiping would have helped?
Great work!
Thank you for the feedback! <3
About the FPS map, there were no points of interest that could help navigate. Maybe I should have added some unique items to mark the locations or maybe even some arrows to help. Sadly I didn't think about that then, sorry.
I believe the match3 controls are common to the style, but it's true that I forgot about the click indicator. I made another game where you click twice to match, but in this one the pieces don't have to be adjacent. That's also why I did it like that this time, click and release.
Simple but effective! I was a bit lost in the FPS at first until I saw the minimap! Works like a charm!
Really cool concept, I’d love to see this expanded upon!
