Photographing all the creatures was fun and the UI does a great job of communicating to the player what you can photograph. It was a little unintuitive how to interact with the mail (reading the itch page brought me up to speed!), I thought I needed to drop off the mail or sleep or something, but nope...just needed to wait. Cute lil' forest stroll!  It'd be a nice bonus to have a photo album you can deposit photos you want to keep arranged all neatly versus the loose ones in your inventory.

This was cute! Surprisingly chill little wander around the forest taking photos, submitting the wrong evidence, waiting for mail. great work, sometimes a simple idea can carry a lot of impact! The highlighting of the things you could take photos of was perfect. Well done all around!

Really cool game. Taking pictures of creatures, of stuff, of strange dust, etc. Really had fun of it.

A few suggestions:

When you take picture of two animals at once, it identifies only one of them.

Also, the game is really short, could add some progression into it, as I was able to take pictures of all the things in just few minutes and then just waiting several minutes for mail to come. Adding some invasive plants (trees, etc.) could be a thing.

So I'm not sure if that's because the game is unfinished, but mail always says that I don't have enough evidence.

Also, when you walk right near the back wall of the house on the outside, it zooms on your pictures as if you were standing near the table.

Other than that, really cool idea, wish you all the goods of game making :D

I really loved the zooming in and out with the camera and the smooth animations of the inventory, cabin. Really nice mechanics and it was fun clicking pics of the creatures.

I had a lot of fun! The music and art were great and I loved all the animals.

I took a picture of Big Foot! He was so quick, I understand why all the photos are normally blurry. 

I think the only "bug" I ran into was that birds have collision so when they go back to their nest they  gather supernatural strength and hurl me toward the tree. Minor thing though :) I'm glad the character was sturdy.

Lol, some of the collision boxes could use some work, and possibly the option to collide with some entities and not others (didn't quite parse the phyics layer system in the time alotted, but it seems like the likely solution).

Thanks for the feedback and the heads up on the bug... There are a couple of interesting interactions the player can have with the animals' colliders. Maybe we should have turned the bug into a feature, and given achievements for finding all the ways you can glitch it out :P

I had fun walking around and taking pictures of the animals. It was a bit difficult to find back the cabin though. Very well done for your first game!

Thank you! Yes, the cabin location is certainly something that was taken for granted when testing on a smaller map. Also, as a side note - this is not my first jam game. But it is the first jam I've submitted in Godot, the first jam I have submitted with a friend (rather than solo), and the first game jam submitted to GWJ (what the question asked in the submission form). Just thought I'd clarify :P

Really loved this concept! The systems all felt really smooth and the detail of how you zoom into the cabin was a really nice way of doing the transition. This is one of those concepts that could be expanded so far with e.g. procedural generation of terrain and the wildlife, trying to find the rarest possible animals/entities. But this is really polished for the time period - well done!

Thank you! We had so many ideas for this game that we had to cut for the jam - predators (eg. wolves and bears, we had the sprites but no time to animate them) and interactions between animals (predators chasing and eating prey, wildlife populations and locations changing overnight depending on the state of the ecosystem, etc. The premise certainly has a lot of potential, and it was a lot of fun to build!

A lot of cool systems implemented in one game - camera, day/night cycle, drag and drop, and some cool camera work when entering the cabin. I kept getting lost and not being able to find my cabin haha - I would have liked to see a compass or something showing me the way back.

Thank you for the kind words! This was our first time feeling out Godot as an engine (moving from Unity), so all of these features were pretty fun to learn about and implement with the new tools.


As for losing your way to the cabin... This is one of those features that didn't seem too much of a priority during development, but quickly became apparent during gameplay after submission, lol. I will have to agree with your suggestion on that one - having a 'compass' pointing back to your cabin in the field inventory would have been a nice touch while keeping with the feel the game is trying to produce.
