Game Description
A small platformer game where you use the powers of gods to go through levels

How does your game tie into the theme?
You're praying to old mythological gods as to recieve their power. Mythology is practiaclly folklore since it is spread by word of mouth and passed down through generations

Congrats on your game man, the concept was interesting, the player didn't feel great and I died more than i care to admit but I get it(I died more than I want to admit on mine for the same reasons, and I made the damn thing) and overall with the little time you had this is great.

Good job!

Btw, for the player maybe add some acceleration for the initial speed up of the character so you get a bit more control while platforming and maybe also a a bigger gravity value when falling, this way the jumps feel a little better when at the top and coming down.

Congrats on your first game! It has core mechanics and they work, the beginnings of a metroidvania style "oh with this power I bet I could go get that item I saw earlier" style of gameplay.

The player movement felt a little jarring, particularly with the camera attached rigidly to that quick start & stop style of jumping, but since you only had a few days for this (versus the usual '2 weekends' for GWJ) it makes sense. The last section, the moving platforms wanted to slide out from under me, and some of the jumps weren't visible as to where you'd jump next.

The powers were really fun and the lil' main character was adorbs!

Nice game! The concept is good overall, I really liked the idea of having powers of gods and use them to help you.

Since this is your first game and you had three days, my only criticism is about movement and controls. Jumping felt a lot weird in the game, aswell as the player speed. I also recommend you to learn about feedback game feel in the future, because everytime I would pray or use a power I couldn't tell it worked properly.

Other than that, congratulations on finishing a game! Good luck in your journey, keep making games!

Developer

Yeah i've got that alot about the jumping and the movement, i must have flunked something there.

But thanks for playing the game :D

The power switching is a fun concept! It would be cool to add a way to switch between powers at will

Developer(+1)

Thanks :D, i originally wanted to make you able to switch powers but it was way too annoying for me and i didn't feel like i had enough time. So i sadly couldn't make it :(

But thanks alot for playing the game :D

I always like a platformer and this was no exception - good job! I like the Norse mythology references and could definitely see the abilities having interesting uses if you were to expand this. I quite enjoyed playing through it. The menu screens also only took up a quarter of the screen for me and I had a few issues with the first Thor platforms, but I was able to get past it and get to the end. From one first-timer to another though, great job! We made something!

Developer

First of all thanks!
I wish i could have made more levels making more mechanics and aspects to the powers, but i honestly didn't have time.
I have no idea why the menu screen would do that, i never experienced that.

I also really understand how you could have a problem with the thor platforms, they were prob the most buggy part, also the part i made first lol :D

But thanks for playing the game, it means a lot :D

Pressing F to destroy the wood did not do anything and I got stuck there. I assume more powers were to come? Great submission for your first game!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

I don't doubt that there could be a glitch that just makes it impossible for you to break the wood, but it could be that you didn't pray at the candle near the wood? Thats the only thing i can think of except it being a glitch.

I would have loved to implement more powers but ran out of time and had such a hard time thinking of them.
But no matter what, thanks a lot for playing the game :D

Considering you only spent 3 of the 9 days working on this it's pretty good! Here are some of my criticisms:

  • Jumping felt a bit clunky
  • I may have broken the first "electric" button because I had fun spamming the lightning on it haha
  • The moving platform did not move the player character while standing on it, requiring you to constantly move to stay on top of it
  • It was hard to read the instructions when they were part of the world instead of UI elements

I really like the idea you had for the theme though! Nice job!

Developer

Thanks alot, i must have messed up somewhere in the code lol. Cuz yeah i can see that it does feel kinda clunky.
I did not expect someone would spam it to such a degree that it would break.
I originally wanted to make the platform move the player also, but i thought eh, whatever and left it as a challenge (though i see now that it really is just annoying)
I honestly didn't know how to do ui, so i just said yolo and tried to use labels.

But truly really thanks for the criticisms, and for playing the game :D

Nice game. The controls are a bit clunky and  not being able to see the platforms where I need to land is kind of troublesome. But other than that, good work, specially with the audio. Keep up the good work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks alot, i think messed up somewhere with the controls which made them pretty clunky. I'll have to do better next time.
I originally thought it could maybe be a little challenge but in retrospect i see that it is kinda annoying.
