Game Description
a top down adventure where you die and come back with the power of what killed you

How does your game tie into the theme?
ascension can refer to dying and going to heaven, so i took ascension to the direction of the character dying

Reminds me of Zelda for  NES! I don't quite see what the goal is though. I met the skeletons to the north first and was about to rage quit after some attempts. The compination of hitbox sizes and how long the character is immobile after firing and arrow was very unforgiving!

Had a look at maybe half the map after that and liked the visuals a lot.

That's a pretty cool game! Visuals are nice, music choice is fitting, and various reincarnations are pretty fun to see too, although the skeleton is OP due to enemies' detection range being pretty low.

"Respawn at the campfire" button is not very intuitive since its positioning makes it look like a title.

Button sounds are a nice touch!

Nice game and fits the theme well.

Respawning with powers of NPC that killed you is a great idea, usually I wanted to get killed by skeleton to shoot from distance :)

I was a little confused at the dragon that I couldn't damage it and died repeatedly, I wasn't sure if I was doing something wrong or if the game was over. But I get that the game doesn't just immediately end when you get killed by dragon, the sprite and animations look so cool and I got more time to look at them.

Art is very nice, one thing I would consider is to make background element more desaturated so that gameplay elements (player, NPCs, ...) pop up more from it.

Congrats on completing the game!

Nice throwback to Zelda 1!
I really like the exploration and the idea of essentially getting powerups from dying, though it would both help the gameplay and fit the theme better if you'd actually get notably stronger depending on the enemy. The way it is rn, there is not really a reason to engage with the system at all.

Btw, the game crashes for me pretty frequently when I get killed while I'm attacking.

Developer

the project files got corrupted half way through working this. and while i did manage to unbreak most things, when it came time to exporting it several game files did not want to export properly, basically it tries to point to resource data that physically exists but isn't exported because godot thinks its corrupt.

at least i think that's what's causing all the crashes. these crashes don't happen in the editor which is fun, they're also incossistent which basically makes it impossible to debug it.

oof yea, its always horrible when something like that happens close to a deadline

but once I knew that it wont crash if I just dont get hit while attacking, it basically became a meta challenge for me to beat it this way, so it didnt ruin the experience at all, good job with the game :)

Wait, I've just read you come back with the power of what killed you. Must try again!

Ok that bit was cool. But there doesn't seem to be much progression and if I respawn at a campfire, so do all the enemies I just killed?

good job!
