Pretty interesting style choice, not sure if I completed the game though (I putted the carror, eye and the bottle in the ritual and then I got an ending).

A plan we have for the game's future is to flesh out more elements of the endings, we only managed to implement a 'Good' and 'Bad' ending. There are 3 on our idea board at the moment! So expect more in the future!

Absolutely fantastic game, the art, music, voicework and spooky narrative were incredible and I had a great time <3

Developer

Oh I am glad to hear you had a great time with Homunculus! Our Voice actor cryptid is over the moon. There are more spooky narrations of the Master, so expect more in the future! :D

First off, the artwork is definitely the thing carrying this piece for me. It had some strangeness going on that was oozing mystery, so props there. The use of thick grunge lines and dimmed colors reminded me of Darkest Dungeon, and the Lovecraftian nods are always welcome.

There were some technical glitches around, like monitor ratio weirdness, the blue unity background popping out and stuff like that. Plus, Item duping was a thing. But I am sure that given more time and maybe a firmer technical hand, this can grow into something really facinating.

When we first started the 48hr Gamejam, we realised very swiftly that we were a team of illustrators! Also, a lot of us enjoy Darkest Dungeon and the cosmic horror genre, so to hear our artwork is reminding folks of Darkest Dungeon is a major compliment, so thank you! :D
As for the tech side of things, we have a list of bugs, issues and such that we are going to work through and upload new builds after the Gamejam is over! Keep them eyes peeled!

Sounds lovely. Looking forward to seeing the end result.

Love the art!

Thank you so much! Us Illustrator cryptids ingested a lot of coffee and potions to create some art we are thoroughly proud of! :D

"Holy Sh*t" with wide eyes and gawping when I saw the 1st scene. Eyes went everywhere trying to soak in the feast. Now, I enjoy a good art, but this ain't good, it's Beautifully AWESOME! As for the character's movement, I like it, it is both scary and cute, and might I add, smooth. For the title, I'm into it coz I like the Homunculus concept like from the Fullmetal Alchemist. Background music suits the genre professionally. The master voice when we obtained the 1st item is really well done.

Suggestion/Fix:

- Have a Game Name intro before starting game would be nice

- Make a quick tutorial/instruction

- 'Aquire, Magine, vegebles, smelt' spelling, unless they simulates the character style, then I'm fine with it.

- Put an arrow direction so that players know that they can get into the next room (right & left)

- Music suddenly stop randomly when I arrived in the second room (tried restarting)

- The font when players want to transmute the items. You can use a more eerie fonts, even Chiller works.

- Make an Autosave feature or Quicksave file so that if player transmuted wrongly, we don't have to start from scratch again

- Provide the pop up description of the items when we hover over them in the 'bag'

I managed to collect 6 items so far but haven't successfully transmute them. Will keep on trying Hhahah.

All in all, A really Awesome Job Cryptid Coterie :)

I'll be eager to play an improved version if you make it.

First off, you bless us with your kind words! Us Cryptids enjoy a good spooky story from time-to-time (a LOT of the time,) so being able to sit down for 48 hours and make a quick simple spooky story with magic? Wonderful time well spent! If you thoroughly enjoyed the artwork you saw here, you can see more from the resident illustrator cryptids, @space_nomad_art, @charleyhallart and @tarotsbizarrebazaar on Instagram!
I will pass your kind words on to our music and VA Cryptids! :D

Now then, to the meat and potatoes. We are fully intending to push this game concept further and seeing what we can create and update!
It being our first attempt at a Gamejam with only one programmer (we appreciate him dearly) we were not expecting everything to work how we would have liked, BUT that's how things go from what we have learnt!
I've got your recommendations and notes on our list of things to update-and-implement, so thank you for taking the time to type those up!

Expect more in the future!

Thank you for the Instagram, I just checked on those 3 and the arts. Ummph! Each of them are scarily talented.
Will expect more in the future :)

As one of the residential illustrators (@tarotsbizarrebazaar) I am glad you enjoy our art! :D

Really nice art. After collecting the first item I can't close the item window, so I can't continue playing :/

Developer

Thank you so much for the kind comments (us illustrator's thrive off of them!) and thank you for the heads up regarding not being able to close the item window. I'll let the team know and will add this to our list of bug fixes! :D
