Is Dee's Tonic just flavor text? I tried making it to see if there was a second ending, and it didn't work.

Developer

sadly, yes, it's just flavor text. I was going to add in the other recipes, but ran out of time!

I liked  the feel and polish of this game a lot! Nice work!

Very impressive game, had to double check it was Game Jam submission it felt so finished, Sweet story and interesting puzzle concept! Well done!!

Some of the "puzzle" was a bit difficult to pick out because steps referenced words buried inside of descriptions in other books, so I was stuck for a bit, but otherwise a pretty fun/short game.

Developer

Haha yeah, this is intentional and you're supposed to kind of have to hunt around for a while. Definitely not for everyone. Thanks for playing though!

I really like the art style (especially the opening cutscene) I sadly couldn't play the game due to GUI, but I really hope this game gets more ratings!

Great job on making the presentation feel so unified. All the little touches, the music, the page sounds, and the cutscenes really got me immersed. It's rare I'm invested in the story of a jam game! I enjoyed messing around with the alchemy system too, although I only got to making exalted AV.

Two small suggestions that I think would improve things if you ever return to the game.

  • Nix the abbreviations for the elements, none of these words are particularly long and if I'm doing a lot of reading I'd rather just see the word
  • Add a skip button to the dialogue, I accidentally got stuck in a loop of the really long first conversation with Dee. :)

I think I'm having the same problem as HLR Studios, who commented before me. Either way, I really like the narrative you've got going, and the small details like the little beeps when the text scrolls by is really nice. I also noticed the text scrolled by at different speeds, which though small, I really appreciate cause I'm all for the tiny details. Great job!

Developer

Thank you! Sorry about the UI issues. I've added a note so people don't get caught off guard /waste their time. Thanks again!

Is there a way to pick things up and place them into your inventory? I can get to the transmute page, but I can only figure out how to click the button. I really like the idea and execution so far though, so if there's something I'm doing wrong, please tell me!

Developer(+1)

I'm not quite sure what the question is- on the Transmute screen, you should see your inventory down at the bottom. If you click on one of the items there it should automatically go in to the screen.

Let me know if I can help more and thanks for trying it!

Submitted

Yeah, I guess maybe I'm just not seeing it because I don't have any inventory items. When I go up to things I am trying to pick up, I just go to the Transmute screen though, so maybe I'm doing that part wrong.

Developer(+1)

Hmm, did you try interacting with the bookshelf? There's a trigger on that that should give you an item.

Submitted

The bookshelf gave me the note, but I don't see an item. Maybe I'm just stupid, haha.

Oh, I probably know what's happening. If you don't see the bottom part of the GUI here:

It's likely because I forgot to make the GUI actually scale and your display's resolution isn't  tall enough to view it.

Sorry about that! Thanks for trying, haha.

Submitted

Ah, yeah that makes sense. No problem, it looks like it'd be a lot of fun if I got it working!
