I really love this idea - you've done an excellent job of shining a light on the essential experience of being a landlord, and the general mess that comes with the business.

I do wish there had been more of a learning curve: kind of a Tycoon game approach where you start off learning the game with just a couple properties and a few tenants. As the property market opens up, you can add more houses and tenants until you get to where the jam game is now.

Some conveyance SFX would have also been nice, even just little pips and ticks when you press buttons -- some big "KACHINGS" could also be nice when you buy properties.

But I do really love this game! Criminally underrated!

You're reading my mind, all this is coming in the post jam version.

The game looks nice, and I don't really mind it being silent although some SFX would help a bit. The worse thing for me was that the game didn't really seem to respond to anything. It took me ages to realise I could buy a house because the options being greyed out suggested they were unavailable. Then once I got someone in I tried to buy a different house and couldn't put a tenant in. It was a bit confusing

So many things to agree with here, I didn't manage my time well. The post-jam version will include what you suggested!

100% agree gentlemen, had no time to polish gameplay at all. Actually threw out my original idea 20 hours in (bad habits...)

I don't mind the 1bit aesthetic at all. I think it connects you to the kind of gameplay loop you'd put on my TI-83.

But I do agree with just about everything else. I couldn't click fast enough to pay down my debt it was so fast, and the economic gameplay model doesn't work when no tenants want to move in.

There's a good concept in here --- the more you charge in rent should actually reduce the mobility of the tenants. So, essentially milk the tenant and move on as the best 'strategy' not worrying about the fact that you leave your tenants destitute.. a poignant social commentary of the land ownership in America.

I really like the background of this game. Playing as a greedy landlord makes me feel disgusting but I like money so I guess it's alright.
The presentation on this game leaves something to be desired. No music, no color, and small icons made it so that I was not engaged in the game. Everything seemed to happen so fast, and I had a bunch of tenents on screen that couldn't even move in because they weren't interested in the properties I had to offer. If there were a brief tutorial explaining how to navigate your menus, it would have saved me a lot of frustration figuring it out. Overall, I think that good presentation and game balance will fix this one.
