How does your game fit the theme?
[Keep in mind the move detection is awful in the submitted version, i had 8 hours left when i tried to fix it, i did in the end, but the jam was already over. So you may at random win or lose if the game has a slight idea that you may have checkmated a king piece.] You play your enemy's pieces, with the occassional switch from a knight move.

Did your team create the art for this game during the 48 hour time slot?

This is pretty neat.  The idea of switching sides is really cool for chess.  I think it would be really cool and even more fitting to the theme if the pieces that switched sides randomized each turn.  Like you could be setting up a checkmate with your rook, but, oops, suddenly moving the rook now switches sides, and now the computer messed up your setup, or even worse, won with your setup.

Cool stuff! =)

The interesting thing here is thinking about chess from the perspective of wanting to lose which is not normally something anyone has to think about. Playing two sides of the same board with two goals.

The idea is really creative, having to switch between your team and the other team and all that, and it's a relatively fun experience. The game does need to be polished up a bit though which the developer is currently doing I heard, but overall nice game 3/5

Developer

Thanks, and yes i am polishing it up! I already have a drive folder open with an update that has better performance then the one submitted currently, but not much else…

Currently i am planning on making the ai actually smart, along with adding the customization features, like custom pieces that i had planned at the start.

I think chess AI is quite difficult, but good on ya for having a go at a such hard task :)

Developer

chess ai is indeed difficult, but the ai really is more of a random number generator with a slight thing to make it move the king piece if it is playing its pieces and the king is checkmated. I actually have the update back to the same point as this one, which is great, so i can update this when i its unlocked

seems pretty easy to just win with out using the mechanic, which just makes this feel like chess.

Developer

For one, i had planned to add actual AI instead of it randomly picking pieces, and two the detection is all wonky. I am making an update in order to fix these issues, sadly i didn’t finish it before the deadline so it’ll have to wait. Because the detection is wonky, you literally can win if the game has any slight chance of seeing if the enemy’s king is “checkmated”.
