I'm not familiar with this genre at all, but I like your game, it looks good and your choice of music works really well. I didn't understand what to do to get more pistols after the first two even if I deleted them so yeah, I hope you do add some more instructions when you work on this more.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback <3

The fire should generate your tiny fires(money) that allows you to buy pistols and guardians, just like the game plants vs zombies.

I will add that to the instructions after the jam :3

I have to say...WOW, this is really great quality for the amount of time. I liked the music, and having never played PvZ that much before (outside of like one of those game tablets they have at some restaurants), I was able to pick it up pretty quickly based on your onscreen instructions.

I do appreciate that the code was grouped very well, but I think maybe sprinkling some comments as well could have added some more insight, particularly for those who are new to game dev or coding (I'm just speculating, as I'm coming at it with lots of coding experience, but I think some of the logic/decisions might be more accessible with some additional comments).

Overall, this was very well done!

Thank you so much for your sweet words <3

I did my best to group the events to make everything clear to the users, but sure ill keep that in mind to add more comments after the jam finish :3

Just by the sheer amount of thought, effort and polish that went into this, in such a short stretch of time, I wouldn't be surprised if it would have been hard to get a lot of comments in with the time limit.  The code itself has a layer of complexity to it (not super-complicated, but I think definitely a step or three above beginner level), but from someone who does work with code regularly, I will say I still was pretty much able to follow the code after perusing it for a bit.  So don't get me wrong, I think it is very well done!

Thank you again for your time reviewing the game example ๐Ÿ’–

very happy you like it <33

Awesome! I would never had guessed someone would make a PvZ example for this jam! When I first tried this on mobile it worked great there too! Maybe there's a bit much code? (But it's excusable to an extent, since a game like this would use a lot of code anyways, still impressive considering the amount of time given).

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for your feedback <33

very happy you like the example :D

yes it was a challenge to me to make such a big mechanic in 2 days ^^

Very glad you like the example :D

thanks again <3

Neat little demo. It runs nicely and is quite playable. Very impressive what you've put together in a couple of days.

However, your documentation is lacking. And I'm also a big stickler for reducing code as much as is reasonable and making it extendable.

As your code stands, it's got a lot of repeated events (like a group for each box) which can be reduced to a fraction of the size - the 20 box event blocks can be reduced down to one generic block. Because of it's current form, it'll takes a bit of work to extend this demo. Want to more columns or rows? You've got to copy, paste & edit an existing block of events.

Please don't take this the wrong way.

I think your demo is great. And with a bit of code refactoring and commenting, it'd be fantastic as a template. If you do go ahead with this and want some help, contact me on the GDevelop forums (my handle is MrMen)

Thank you for your sweet feedback <33

am very happy you like the example :D

i agree there is a lot of repeated events for every box which is required, but yes there is other ways to do make this mechanic for sure in less events but its gonna require time, and 2 days was a challenge to me to make this big mechanic in a short period :3

hopefully after the jam I will reduce the events in a better way :3

Thank you again for your awesome feedback <3

A big fan of PvZ, so its great to have this template for it! It plays perfectly and has all the basic features, ready for expanding with new enemy and defender types. My only wish is that this could be achieved with less code... the event sheet is so long! But it is well grouped.

Developer

Thank you for your feedback <3

Glad you like the template :D

I did my best to make it simple, but its a big mechanic and require a lot of events, but simple to understand :3

All events are in groups that explains the events job ๐Ÿ˜‰

I like the principle of the game (a real challenge!), the drag and drop system, but it took me a while to understand how to regain energy. I had read too quickly. But after that, we always want to go further!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your sweet review <3

very happy you like the example game ๐Ÿ˜Š

I didn't mention you can get energy from the fire building because I thought its a popular way in plants vs zombies :3

but ill make sure to mention that after the jam ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks again for your feedback ๐Ÿ’–

Cool. Events are well grouped. The only thing is that there are no comments to say what is happening in the code so it might be a little confusing for beginners. Other than that, well done!

Developer

Thank you so much for your sweet words <3

I commented the events through groups naming :3

Good template for Plants vs Zombies game. There is plenty of room for expandability. I like the smart use of variables. Very well documented. Great job.

the game works great except for the soft lock when you place the shield guy and then remove him and i could not download the file because it took me to a website called zippyshare that started bombarding me with ads lol

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the review <3 , Glad you like it ^^

True, I didn't get enough time to add the mechanic to fix this, but i will surly fix it after the jam ๐Ÿ˜‰

the website is very famous, you just skip the ads, I didn't know how to make the file downloadable immediately from itch.io so I made it downloadable from zippyshare :3
