How does your game meet GBJam's theme?
We developed a system based on blackjack duels

That's such a good idea! Blackjack mini game to determine damage dealt, I love it, and the fact that busting damages you and hitting 21 on the dot deals damage without wasting a turn - chef kiss.
It's a small thing but the music didn't loop, for me it stopped just a few seconds after I got in to the casino.
Really cool mechanic, this was a fun one :)
love the concept and the mechanic of the game
The best Godot entry in the jam in my opinion! Really captured the originally felling!
Good game mechanic, love the idea and the execution, the big poker table sprite was a bit off croped, but it was very pretty overall. Good job.
A combat system with blackjack — that’s a great idea and I think it fits the theme really well.
The blackjack duels was not something I expected. Definitely a different approach.
Mechanically, though, it seemed like the best route was to Stand the moment there was risk of busting, since the punishment for busting not only took away your chance to hit, but also gave the enemy a huge free hit. The computers also approached the game a similar way, and at the end of the day made the final boss feel a bit like it was pure chance if you could win it (even though I got it first try).
I also feel it would be a boon to pull cards from a deck for both you and the opponent, and give them suits. It would make the blackjack aspect feel a little more there, and maybe add some strategy in the way of card counting.
Thanks for the feedback!
The original ideia was to implement suits and habilities for the diferent cards, what we unfortunatly were unable to do due to the time (and skill) limit. But I will keep what you said in mind for the future!
It's a solid combat system even if it is pretty basic.
It would greatly help the flow of the game if you could add some images/symbols to the UI and convey the cards drawn and "hit/stay" status of the other character through those images rather than requiring the player to press a button to get a stream of new text prompts to describe what is happening. The text was a bit hard to follow and I had to stop myself from spamming the continue button so that I didn't accidentally 'hit' or 'stay' when those prompts came up.
Thanks for the feedback! I will keep this in mind for future projects and if I decide to continue working on this project
