How does your game meet GBJam's theme?
I'm afraid it doesn't exactly feel like a Game Boy game, but I'm just a beginner (with a new engine too) and only had a few days. My initial idea was a twitchy arcade game, but I improvised (and rushed) a lot in the process and it turned into this.

This is my first ever game jam and it was a great learning experience. Thank you for letting me participate!

The title length is more evocative of post rock than emo, and the tone of the music is there to match. I kind of zoned out and played up into a score in the 250s before I realized that I'd been sitting here that whole time just lost in the sparkly snow and quiet of it all. Very nice.

Thank you! I love post rock so that's real high praise! And you just played it the way it's meant to be played :) really appreciate the comment!

The sound effect for catching brains blending with the music was a great touch pretty chill game, for a game about zombies. That’s a nice twist

Thank you, really appreciate it! I'd like to say it was my idea all along, but really I just couldn't come up with SFX I was happy with, so I just made chords that could be played over the music.

First off, bonus points for getting your kiddo involved in the jam.

You said in your description, 'You have to start somewhere." Your submission was a really solid start. The graphics worked, the zombie looked like a zombie and the brains looked like brains. I liked how the zombie looked like a kid trying to catch snowflakes on their tongue. My favorite part was how the notes when you caught the brains changed and worked with the music.

The first time I played, there was no sound, but the controls worked perfectly. The second time I played, I had sound, but the game glitched on me. I don't know if it was my browser or something else. I'm glad I went back to play the second time, because I the note changing for the brains along with the music was a treat.

Nice job, especially for your first game jam. I hope you participate next year. It's fun to watch people's skills increase year over year.

Thank you so much for the kind words, it really means a lot! Will definitely want to do more, especially with encouragement like yours.

If you can, can you tell me the browser and OS you are using? Maybe I can reproduce and fix the sound issue.

Btw, I played Over the Moon before I started the jam - I think it's brilliant! It's one of the things that inspired me to continue.

My browser is Firefox and OS is MacOS Sonoma 14.3.

It's super awesome to hear you liked Over the Moon. That was our first attempt at a platformer. The code is open source. Feel free to tinker around with it and make your own stuff. https://github.com/velipso/gbjam-11-space

If you do, be sure to share it with us. We love seeing what other people make.
