Really good submission! Lots of content here. I really liked the mix of the 2d game in with the 3d, it was really cool. I was also amazed by just how much you managed to create in 10 days, truly amazing. However, I did notice some issues. For instance, I noticed that when playing the 2d levels, you still controlled your 3d character. So in the training room, I kept walking to far away from the computer and getting kicked out of it. But issues like that are sure to crop up with a game of this scale. Regardless, really great job!
Also, maybe you could check out and rate my game? :)
Cool that you managed to both create a 2D-minigame and a 3D game in 1.
You created quite some levels to run through and the project scope seems actually quite large.
My advice would be to focus next time on just a few elements and try to make these elements feel great with some game juice.
Great job for creating a game and submitting!
Eventually the game was deeper and had more content than it seemed at the first look on it.
The professor's aide in the first lab room seems to have stepped through the portals a few too many times, judging by how he seemed to phase out of the normal dimension (his model's mesh would need some fixing).
The first bot I encountered was seemingly invincible, until he turned around when I disengaged. Fortunately the other ones were somewhat easier.
Performance in the landscape behind the last portal was seriously lagging, this scene would need some optimizations...
The controls could need a bit of improvement as well, at some points I was moving towards the front and suddenly my view flipped around.
Given the huge scope of the game it's no wonder it's so unpolished. So perhaps next time, scope your project a bit down so you can make it a more rounded experience instead... ;)
Heckert, I worked today in some feedbacks you commented me, I reorganized the navigation points of Nicholas, the aide of the profesor Wagner int the first room of the first Facility. And I did a mesh combiner in the last level, because the road was maded with Haudini Kit ramp. It makes too many meshes creating this ramps but they are very nice to me. With the mesh combiner I combined all the meshes in one, I hope this reduce the time lags in that level.
I need to solve the some bugs in my game yet, in the Labs, if you are near a door and you flip, you see behind that doors, the solution is easy, but I will fix those issues tomorrow, and I need to find another model to Nicholas, becuase that model has too many problems, I am agree with yoo, . Give it a try please, and coment me about, your feedbacks are very valueble to me.
Things I liked:
-I liked the idea of multiple styles mixed together - 2d one moment, 3d the next
-I like that you had multiple languages supported for this game!
-fun little story to follow along
Things to improve:
-not sure why the training room was so dark? I did not realize the other person in the room was someone I was supposed to be talking to, not shooting. Also did not see the computer or the door so it took me 20 minutes to get out of the training room. It didn't help that every so often, I would be sent back to the title screen- not sure why.
-Controls were a little hard to grasp, but I later learned that right mouse button was aim and left was shoot, not left control button. Mouse was hard to use on the tutorial level as it would only go so far and then I could no longer continue turning in that direction
-2D levels were a great idea, but I would have liked variety. Also I continued losing or something since I would be teleported to the beginning of the level. I think I was hitting an invisible enemy or trap, but that was tough
Overall:
You submitted a game in a short amount of time with two languages supported! That is insane! Good job and keep working and making games, you are doing great!
It would be super awesome if you could check out and rate my game as well!
The settings for the game page say there is a WebGL version of it, but there isn't. Only a windows build. Since there isn't any source, I wouldn't be able to build my own, unfortunately...
You might try out some of the settings for optimizing the build.
Code optimization an generation for size instead of speed, or limiting texture sized. Also, in the player settings for the WebGL build target there are some options that are off by default which might help.
(Optimize Mesh Data, for example)
If that doesn't help already, better ask on the Discord...
Congratulations DeathJehuty. I'm very glad you have finished the Dr. Wagners Quest, this game will have a continuation. You know that you make me very happy with your advice. If you want to suggest me something to improve the game, I will appreciate it very much!!. I am very happy with this notice. thank you again.
Hi, I noticed your submission is missing source. Your source is everything someone needs to download your game, open it in the game engine, and hit Play to play the game. Here is an example of the files to include: https://github.com/icepol/DeathIsOnlyTheBeginning
Thank you Yang, Sorry, yesterday I Uploaded 3 files, but I supposed that files do not work correctly, Today I uploaded a zip file with all the files to play the game, If you downloaded the Zip File and the game do not run tell me please, The run takes a time but it work well in my computer. I appreciate your comment very much. If the problem persists in the zip file, pleas tell me. Thank you friend for your feedback.
Breaking the project up like this isn't making things easy unfortunately. you have to be carful where you extract the second and third archive to, and that there's a duplicate folder in the third one isn't really helping either...
"A meta data file (.meta) exists but its folder 'Assets/1 External assets/ModularSci-FiWeapons' can't be found, and has been created. Empty directories cannot be stored in version control, so it's assumed that the meta data file is for an empty directory in version control. When moving or deleting folders outside of Unity, please ensure that the corresponding .meta file is moved or deleted along with it."
Did I mess up stitching it together?
It seems I actually have to install the latest 2020.3 version of Unity as well, I got compilation errors and dropped into "safe mode"...
"A meta data file (.meta) exists but its folder 'Assets/HoudiniEngineAssetCache' can't be found, and has been created."
... or maybe it's becase one can't use it without having Houdini?
Yes Hecker, the Houdini plugin is needed to work with the first version of the ramp in the last Road to travel gate scenario, but I join the models obtaining one Houdini Model with a meshcombiner, the Houdini plugin in this is not necesary. I think. Thank you for all of your suppert in this jam, for me was great.
