Dude, I love this -- definitely very evocative of Banjo/Mario 64! Very nostalgic for me and fun to play :)
Thankyou! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Really cool man, I agree with omzeeeee below me, I really did get an early 2000 game vibe from this, which can be somewhat difficult to recreate honestly. The only critiques I have is that I think the camera controls are a little difficult, it can be hard to move with WASD and rotate the camera where you need to at once. (I dont know if its purposely like that to resemble old school games or not) It was easier with the arrow keys, but perhaps switching camera movement to the mouse would be an improvement? Either way, congrats on the submission man, glad to see so many people taking part in it while putting in so much effort
Thankyou for the feedback! Muchly appreciated.
I agree about the camera controls. Theyre partially clunky as you guessed, to emulate oldschool games, I managed to get the player and camera controls very close to how Banjo Kazooie is setup - which is a pretty clunky game when it comes to the camera. Also because I didnt have the time to improve it any further than that XD
Something that would have been nice would be a toggle to 'auto'-stick behind the character, which a lot of games had including Banjo Kazooie. But I didnt implement it because the camera would have cut through terrain a lot like that, so Id also need to work out some kind of anti-clipping feature for the camera which I didnt have time in the end to attempt. And yes the mouse could also be a good way to do it, which would basically emulate a joystick. All good solutions :)
Cheers, omzeeeeeee. It really was a lot of work. I almost always do this with gamejams though, I need to learn to not have such a large scope, focus more on the gameplay & making a complete game!
Glad you enjoyed the nostalic aspect though, thats certainly something Im very happy with. Spent a lot of time during the jam playing Banjo Kazooie, Ive never really though about how complicated and polished some of the systems are in that game - until now that is :)
The camera has a very nice early 3D platformer feel, and I like the Woofer mechanic.
I did run into some trouble, I was getting the no jump tutorial issue, and not everything was rendering. But for a week's work I think you're doing well!
Glad I got the oldschool platformer feel right, certainly an element I was happy with too!
Sorry to hear about the tutorial issue, that was a pain. It seems to work ok most of the time at the moment, but still a couple of glitches around with that system it seems.
Thankyou for everyone whos play and rated it so far!
Id be interested in knowing any high scores. How much dogecoin are you able to get your paws on? :D
Love this game and rated.
Thankyou for that bobdos! Will return the favor shortly :D
Cute!!
This is so cool! I LOVE the retro N64 style graphics, such nostalgia! Great work! :)
Thanks Billy! Glad you like the retro aspect of it, that part certainly turned out better than expected. Learnt a good deal of new things making this one :)
Looks great! Good job!
Thanks Kittiedragon!
Ill be getting around to checking out *all* the other entries today, yours up first :)
Thank you <3
Love the graphic style of yours, liked Barking at the monster/ statue thing to wake it up, really fun mechanic :)
Looking forward to playing more in the future!
Ha yes, that was interesting to setup and turned out better than expected. Wish I had time to include a few more moments like that, I had some others in mind!
