Overall: I think it's pretty cool that your combo is also your health! I really enjoyed the concept of this one, and the gameplay loop is satisfying. The game ramps up in difficulty at an appropriate rate, and the graphics + audio combine really well to make the game feel good. My biggest complaint is that there didn't seem to be a "game over" screen of any sort, so I had to Alt+F4 to close it, and there wasn't any metric of score, so I can't boast at how well I did, or replay the game with a visible high score to beat.

Fun: I enjoyed it! I definitely had a good time running around and dodging everything . As stated, any indication of how well I'm doing would be nice. Either a timer, or score, or "longest combo at 9 without dropping"... anything! It would add replayabillity for sure.

Innovation: Top down shooters are definitely a genre in need of innovating, and I like your combo = health addition! I think it can make the game too easy at times, but since it's the tie in with the theme, I can't complain. Speaking of...

Theme: I really like how the combo is the center of attention. It's very clear that the combo is the main focus of the game, and it's a pretty great take on the theme.

Graphics: First things first, I love the screen shake.  I like the gore, but making it pink is an interesting touch. I think the background is a bit awkward? I can't tell if it's grass, or a nuclear river of some sort. The grey boxes are also a bit out of place.

Mood: I usually reserve this space to talk about the emotions I felt playing the game. It's fun, and over the top, and goofy, and that's great.

Audio: I like the sound effects. Some music would be nice.

Humor: Good ol' nonsensical violence.  I'm a fan.

Final Thoughts: Checking out your Itch.io page, this looks like it's your second game jam? And dang, it's a solid entry. Great work!

Thank you so much! I agree with you on everything, point system was lacking but sadly i didnt have the time to add it, the art was super simplistic for time's sake and the background is pretty bad, as i dont have much experience with backgrounds in general, and im working on it :)

This was pretty fun (and hectic)!

Only realized you could switch weapons too late x)

Also, it would be nice to get a score at the end, and settings too.

And more sfx would have been nice too.

You played this on stream?! Thank you so much man!! And I do agree that the game is lacking  elements like a score, more sfx variety and such, since I didn't really have time for them, but i do plan to expand on the game further! Thanks so much for the feedback!!

One thing I did notice is that because I put the controls on the page for tha game instead of on the game itself, a lot of people missed stuff like dashing (right click), slowing time down (shift) and such, so I will have that in mind for my next game jam!

Good game:

Positives:

  • Sprites look good
  • The SFX are great (when I try to make my own, they sound annoying, but yours sound pleasant)
  • Game player is simple and fun
  • Love the trail of enemy guts that I leave behind
  • DUEL WIELDING!

Things that could be improved:

  • The pink blood is too saturated and starts hurting the player's eyes after 5 min of killing. You could lower the saturation of the sprite (bring it slightly closer to grey), and the same goes for the grass.
  • There wasn't any real reason to use the hook, because the 2 swords were enough to be immortal if you just keep moving and hitting targets
  • More any types could have made progressing and surviving longer more rewarding, but currently, there isn't much reason to try to play more. Upgrades and a boss also could help.

Thank you so much for the feedback! I agree that background and blood were a bit too saturated, and, they even hurt my eyes after playing for too much! And balancing the weapons was hard for the game jam, so the swords ended up being super unbalanced and i didnt have time to add more enemies, but these are things that I plan to fix in the future! That was really nice. I am a sucker for these top down shooter games. The slow time feature was cool, but I didn't need it. Felt it was really easy, event when there was a ton of enemies. I would love to see relics or loot or something thrown into the mix :D Good job!!

Interesting gameplay. There is no restart button  xD.  The game resembles io games.

Thanks! There is actually a restart button, its the "R" button, you can see it in the game page next to all the other controls. If you didnt see the controls i recommend playing the game again cause you probably missed the "slow down time" feature! Hope you had fun tho! :D
