3D Modeller, Texturerer, and Rigger open for collaboration!

Hiya, I'm Jackie, and I've been doing 3D for 7, almost 8, years now, and have been doing it professionally for 3 years, most of it being for characters. Here is my portfolio for anyone who's interested in seeing what I can do.

I speak English, Afrikaans (the lesser known sister language of Dutch), and I'm currently trying to learn Italian.

1. What can I do?

I am a bit of a Jack of all trades when it comes to 3D: I have experience with modelling, texturing,  rigging, and am currently trying to learn animation. I am familiar with Unity and Godot, and I can do some shaders if I'm able to use a shading graph, or an equivalent.

2. What would I like to focus on?

I haven't been able to do many environment/prop models in recent years, and I'd really like to get back into those areas of 3D.

3. What can't I do?

I cannot do programming. I can understand a little of it, but I can't write or understand anything that would actually be useful. 

4. What don't I care about - i.e. other people can have "full reign" over?

Sound design

5. What do I care about but cannot meaningfully contribute to - i.e. discussing these elements and suggesting changes?

UI/UX, Game design

6. What is my time commitment to this project? 

I can spend between 1 - 4 hours a day, 7 days a week, on assets. I can usually make very simple assets within an hour or so.

7. What kind of games do I like? What genres or game types do I enjoy playing or working on, or would like to try making?

I would love to make a 3D platformer game! Something like super mario galaxy, odyssey, and a hat in time! I generally like any 3D game that has good gameplay and a story that can hook me! I often like to play games in first person perspective, like minecraft and subnautica.

Hey Jackie, that portfolio looks great. I’m keen on pairing up with you if you’re interested. My name’s Nick, I’ve been using Unreal for about 15 months now but I’m more programmer focused. Prior to this I used to make custom counterstrike minigame maps for a few years so I’m not totally new to ‘game dev’ as such. Would you be ok with creating art and getting it across into Unreal? I know how to do it for Blender .fbx models and animations and simple 2D textures, but not so much for textures / materials with node graphs, normals and shaders etc, so I’d need some help. Happy for you to lead the art and creative direction and I don’t want to step on any toes so no issues there.

My latest work is here on my profile - BirdMafia Zero (just a proof of concept). I also released my first full game on Steam around a year ago - Tower Collapse - and I’m working on a big update to it atm. I can do bits and pieces of 2D and 3D art but nothing like your portfolio, just basic stuff.

For myself I’d like to get more experience in game design and fleshing out ideas into actual working concepts. I’d rate myself as good with level design, but I’d like to improve on that too, as well as adding juice / game feel.

Game genre I’m not fussy really, just something that fits the theme well and is interesting (exciting?) to work on.

I have about 1-2 hours each weeknight, and around 3-4 hours per day on Saturday and Sunday, but depends on the week and my work commitments. I’m in Australian time zones (GMT+10) but happy to stick to messaging instead of jumping into calls constantly. I want to stick to a max team size of 2 or maybe 3 so it doesn’t get too difficult to coordinate everyone.

Heya Nick! I unfortunately can't use unreal due to hardware limitations, so, in that instance, you'd end up taking on a lot more load when it comes to materials, shaders, and potentially LODs. I feel that that would not be entirely fair, since I would be the one in charge of making the assets, and that situation would give you less time to do your thing on the programming side of things. 

I should also note that I might not be able to deliver the same quality of assets as in my portfolio within such a short development time, since the anime/toon style is very time consuming
