I enjoyed your game quite a lot! I thought the two phases were split nicely and they both felt different and satisfying to play. Some added visual indicators could add a lot of quality of life, like a box around the zombies showing their range at a glance. Same for your weapons, like hovering over a card could show its attack area.

I found your game through the Pirate Software discord, thank you for sharing it and I hope you are having fun making it.

Developer

thanks lemonator,

that comment about ranges is a great idea that i will add in future updates

Thank you for the follow and the support, plan on releasing an update ASAP

This game is super fun and innovative! I really enjoy how it encourages using weaker items to reduce damage risks, and the damage card feature is a unique twist. Adding some tower defense elements could also elevate the gameplay further. Great job overall!

Developer

Thank you for the support daytripper, glad you liked my mechanics and overall gameplay

thank you so much for the support

This is a very fun and innovative game! I love how it incentivizes getting weaker stuff to lower the chance of drawing damage cards, which are also a really unique and cool feature. I think if you kept working on this, it could be a really cool game. I think it could be cool with some tower defense elements?  Also, I don't think anyone else mentioned this, but the game doesn't actually check if you have enough iron for the iron sword. As long as you have enough wood (1), your able to make as many iron swords as you want while the iron count goes into the negatives. Anyways amazing game and good job!

Developer

Thanks so much boomrbam

Glad you liked my game, maybe tower defense mechanics could be cool, like you could craft robot allies in the day to help you at night or something?

As for the iron comment... you are right :laugh, dont know how i missed that. it is fixed now locally

Keep being incredible!

I tried to finish the game but both times I tried the game “crash” in the fight part :(

I don’t know well what make it happen, but in both times it was after I retry the day and in the night it crash when I get a card damage or damage from enemies, in the second time it crashed at the start of the night because I got a dmg card in 1st turn haha.

Outside of that, it was a bit entertaining to play this game. :)

I like how you give the controls info to the players at the start haha, the weapons are good, maybe just give a bit of range extra depending on the tier, like the spear maybe 2 squares and the sling 3 squares, also 1 extra option at range for iron tier. My favorite was the iron axe and the sling.

I like how you use the map for the battle, like you could only gather resources from 1 part and leave 1 area with them so you can use those to protect from enemies at night. That’s good and opens for strategy. But 1 thing I would liked is that, you recollect 1st all the materials you want and then you have a submenu at the end of the day to craft anything you want and be able to see your deck to balance it or see what I would like to craft, mostly because it can feel a bit of pressure of crating your cards in middle of the day while also gather the resources to fight. Oh, also, when you retry the day, the materials you recollected stay in the total amount so it's like you never die and you can hoard them.

The visuals are ok, I liked the monsters and the drawings of the cards, maybe another color of green would be good for the floor but outside of that, I like it. Oh, also the music doesn’t loop at nights, don’t forget to put the loop in the options of the sound!

I think it’s creative the way you do damage to the player, by putting the card in the deck, I really liked that concept because it’s the 1st time I see it.

I would try this game again once it doesn't crash at night because I want to see the end :)  Feel free to let me know if you will update the game, but this was entertaining. :D

Oh, also, when it’s the enemy turn, try to not change the camera instantaneously when they end the turn, maybe wait a little bit when they end, maybe it can help a little bit with the visual flow and to see how they did damage, sometimes you only hear the damage sound but not that it did it. :)

Wow what a great review and feedback

First, Id like to take the time to thank you for giving the most in depth review I have ever gotten on a game jam game, this is fantastic, I can tell you really put alot of effort in here and I am going to try and reciprocate this in my response.

I am sorry it crashed, if It makes you feel better, I already know why it crashed, my found the same bug myself first day of the jam 😅 and it's already fixed locally but nothing I can do until post jam unfortunately 😞 if your curious, because I'm lazy, I used the built in . duplicate (deep=true) function of the Array class in Godot, but this calls the default duplicate function on each element of the array without the correct permissions, causing the game to occasionally crash on repeated nights. I believe this is the error as it seemed to fix it locally

Drawing a dmg card on your first turn was a victim of time crunch, it was supposed to take out all of them at the end of the night but I didn't have energy to implement that on the last day 😞(kinda regret it now)

I agree with your synopsis on the weapons, ideally with more time there would have been a greater weapon variety as well as cards that do something other than damage

I 100% agree with your comment with a crafting phase, originally there was going to be a day phase where you collect, evening phase where you build, and night phase where you battle (again time crunch 😞)

Thanks for pointing out the music doesn't loop 😊 didn't realize 🤣

The camera thing is from laziness, it needs tweaking 100% it will be changed

I will let you know when I update this with a bug fix. I want to ask you since you've been so kind to really play this? Do you think with a bit more depth the battle mechanics could be fun as an actual game? That part I really liked and was hoping to take it further into something like a deck building rpg or something similar? Do you have any suggestions for me if I do?

Lastly, I'd like to thank you once again, genuinely the most in depth review I've ever gotten

Keep being an absolute boss!

Nice to see it’s fixed locally and all the other info :)

About the topic if this could be an actual game with some tweaks, I don’t know because it isn't a genre of games I play haha, but there are games for everything. If it gets more developed, I would try it? Yes, but since I’m not the type of person that plays this kind of game, maybe it would go off of my radar with the time.

I would say that you keep working on it if you like the idea of this game or if it’s a game you would like to play, usually games like that become fun with the passage of time because it’s more likely to gather people that plays this kind of game or people that want to do something similar. That this game could be fun for the people? Yes, but also could be unfun if you don’t like it or if you work on it and you don’t like the idea of the game.

I see it like that in this kind of product, I follow this with each idea I develop.

My suggestion and a summary of all this text would be that keep working on it if you like the game :) Also you could work on this as a side project, not necessarily have to be the main project.

Very good idea! You should definitely  continue to work on this!

Thank you so much for the support, i think i will continue on it!

Developer

Really? omg thanks for the support!

I really liked the card game system i got going on here so im thinking of taking it further! glad you liked the game, means a lot!

Keep being fantastic!

I really like the concept here, and think it could transform into a pretty fun roguelike! It's a pretty unique spin on the genre as is.

I unfortunately had some bug issues with my playthrough though. To give context I died the first night because I didn't make enough cards, but while retrying I think I took some damage that didn't get pushed to my health, and after making it through to the 2nd I was instakilled before I got to take a turn (I suspect that damage was queued up from before), and when retrying that 2nd night I got a crash while a skeleton was moving.

That being said, not bitter! I'm a fan of deckbuilding rogues so I had a good time. I wonder if the resource gathering phase would flow better as something turn based instead of time based, because as it is it's actually more frantic than the actual battles to get resources in time.

Hope you keep at it!

Developer

Thanks for the review

I truly gotta thank you for telling me what caused the bug and giving a detailed explanation on how to repeat it, i tried my best before the jam to get as many as i found, but i knew that there must be many more so you are saving me alot of time and energy!

glad you liked the idea, many thanks for playing

Very fun game rogue like game!

The card mechanics work well and the turn based nature is fun and allows for strategizing!

I like the dnd style attacks with an AP system very nice!

Movement feels a bit weird could be the animations with the tile based movement

Also the rush to collect resources is a bit stressful on the player with such a short amount of time especially for when learning maybe make it longer for the first few nights.

Developer(+1)

Those are some really good suggestions, thank you

The movement will be one of the first things i change yea, its weird and causing some weird bugs others are experiencing

giving the player more time the first couple nights is also a really great idea i will keep in mind

Im glad you enjoyed my game, thank you for the support

Hello!
This is a really, really nice game and I had much fun playing it. I made some cool tactis for killing the enemy-storm-waves, but sometimes they were just better than I was  :D

You´ve created an enjoyable game, even with simple graphics. I think that the sounds are fitting and you communicate to the player from the very beginning. The connection from a card-game with tactics and a more "free moving" game where you have to collect stuff is very cool, too. Good work.

Developer(+1)

thanks 100pixels for the feedback, glad you enjoyed my game

It was a big relief to hear this as i was quite worried about this one

Thanks for playing

Keep being amazing!
