As a workaround for the camera, I just parked my mouse cursor directly above the player for the entire game and didn't move it. This was a little restrictive, but felt better overall.

Something about this awakened my inner desire to catch 'em all. I did catch 'em all. I really wanted to completely fill up that square. SPOILERS: ~~The ending was a bit unsatisfying in that regard~~

This game makes good usage of risk vs reward, and it has potential to be a nice small game. However, it is basically unplayable because of 3 easy-to-fix issues (which have been mentioned already but anyways):

Either the camera should rotate with facing, or movement should be independent of facing – WASD directions should never desync from the camera’s axes.
The bullet sound effect shouldn’t be layered x100 when you shoot 100 bullets at a time. Maybe increase the volume of the sound effect instead (with an upper bound), or limit the number of copies of the sound per shot to a small number.
The icon name popup should have a mostly or fully transparent background.

thanks for the suggestions! I will update the game after the jam. I think while developing it I got so used to the controls because I was playing it constantly it didn't bother me anymore. Oh well, something to remember for my next jam lol

I like the icon usage and the aesthetic, but it was really difficult to control because of the movement system

Neat idea, but the controls totally kill it for me - I'm not used to directional movement with a fixed angle camera being relative, but it might be a me thing, though.

Also a small nitpick - the collected icon popup hides to much of the screen when moving in the direction of said popup.

Very interesting mechanic. Minimal and polished. Adding a large num of follower icons in the drop-zone feels satisfying!
