Hey. I recorded a video about the Beginners Circle jam and included your game in it. If you want to cut your game out of the video, let me know. However, if you like the video, I make similar videos every day. I will be happy if you subscribe. Anyway, I enjoyed playing your game.

I enjoyed it. =D

This is amazing! The pixel art is great, the music and sfx are great and each candy feels unique and fun. I love it!

Thanks! So glad you enjoyed it!

it's lots of fun, I loved the theme and the vibe of the game in general :)

I also like that I needed to use all of the moves to win in the later rounds, you avoided the pokemon problem where the best strategy is to just tackle over and over XD good job!

Thanks, that means a lot. Balancing is hard even with only 5 characters. It's randomized each time, so you could try it again to figure out the other candies' strategies.

you did a lot with very little. cool stuff. loved the audio. would've been even better if blasted through that little built in speaker my first ever pc had, the thing  only crackled and popped, but for some reason could beep very loud en crisp. took me a while to figure out what was going on, but it was engaging enough to try again

We definitely enjoyed making the music. Thanks for playing!

JRPG-style combat with totally criminal sweets, why not. Played once, so can't really say if the balance of skills is interesting enough.

Surprising thing, it actually looks much better in small resolution. Once I went full-screen, my eyes just started to hurt. Maybe because of font, maybe because of info distribution over the screen where many things are on the opposite sides of it and are close to the edges, maybe because of squareness.

It looks like it runs on some kind of old console emulator, with cartridges and joysticks and so on. So... does it support 2-player mode when two joysticks are virtually inserted?

Developer

This game was made on the Pico-8 (https://www.lexaloffle.com/pico-8.php) which is both a “fantasy console” and a development environment. It has artificial constraints such as 128x128 resolution and a 16-color palette, so it definitely looks better on a smaller screen. You can create games that are two-player, but ours is only single-player.

You should check it out! Everything is written in Lua and they have a great toolset for creating sprites, maps, sfx, and music.

Thanks for the info. I see that this emulator has surprisingly many games on it. Though I'm not that much into retro to pay 15$ for playing with its dev environment, it's good that there are communities like that.

The game idea is really unique and fun. This could be a really cool expanded game! The font is a little hard to read at sometimes though. In all, great job!

Developer(+1)

Unfortunately, the font was Pico-8's built-in font, but I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Very cool. I really like the sounds and graphics. I definitely see the potential for a bigger game here. Great job!
