How did you implement AI in your game?
Wrote a random AI move picker and also MinMax algo, but sadly wasn't able to optimize it. Then realized I locked myself out of editing the submission by joining Epic MegaJam with this game too (and it got locked some hours earlier), so in the submitted version there's no AI at all. Sorry ^^;

If Generative AI tools were employed, how did you use them in your game?
N/A

What game engine is your game built in?

Unreal

Game looks cool but it's a shame that you can't play against AI. Also 2.2 GB file size is kind of.....excessive maybe. There are only a board and a few chess pieces after all. UE5 is really crazy! In any case i appreciate your work and wish you good luck on your future projects

Thx, glad you liked it! Yeah, I didn't get the AI version in time (got it done to some extent now tho, if you're interested - you can check it out).

As for size... There are also some cool looking canyons & cliffs, but I still didn't put in a camera featuring all that in a nice way. Plus yeah, a lot of optimization could probably be done without sacrificing visual quality, it's just not my strong suit... yet. I will either learn do it or call someone to do it on this project in the future, yep. :)

A fellow CPG grey fan? ;)

Exactly. He complained in the end of the video about not having anyone to play against. While I thought - hey, I can build that. Would be a good training at actually bringing a project over the finish line too. :D

Nice polish! The camera swapping sides was just a bit jarring. Found a bug where if I; picked up a piece, paused, un-paused, and put down the piece again, I couldn't move pick up pieces after that. I'm the type of player that can play 1v1 vs myself thankfully, but still a shame the AI wasn't finished. Good job!

Developer(+1)

Yeah, I didn't like not getting camera right either. It's already fixed in latest dev (AI is mostly too, btw), but didn't quite get there before the deadline.

Glad you liked it! Thx for the feedback )

The game looks great, it's a shame the a.i. wasn't finished, but still fun to play with a friend.

Developer(+1)

Thx, glad you liked it! I'll post an updated version with AI once the page updates are unfrozen, yeah. And will try to push it to multiplayer / full completion & release stages too.

Yeah I'm pretty crap at chess to begin with... I played by myself and tried to checkmate myself and I couldn't even manage to do that. Chess is hard... Hexagonal Chess? WTF?! So HARD! Maybe its a good thing the AI wasn't available to play against, I would have wept.

Developer

Same for me. So far I enjoy playing other people myself (even if I lose), but dreading the moment I go fix the AI and it starts beating me senseless. :D
