Loved this concept! It really feels like a NES game, very Sierra Entertainment vibes too.

Really love y'all's pixel art here! That bear animation! As for gameplay, I noticed that once you go diagonal, you can't stop going diagonally until you left go of all the keys. I think more levels and variety here would also make for a more complete experience. Thanks for making and sharing your game!

Developer

Thanks to you for writing! Khiara made a great job on the graphics. Yes, there are issues with the controls, for example when going diagonally. More levels and variety is something to consider for the future.

Nice sprites and animations. The coliseum style made me instantly remember of Swords and Sandals.

As others have already pointed out, in the second run the attack stops working, and it would probably be better if the gladiator and the bear doesn’t spawn in the same point.

I think a screen that shows who won would also improve the gameplay, and maybe(if it won’t interfere in menu when it works) start the game by pressing spacebar instead of using the mouse.

It is fun to play and has nice sprites that both looks great and fits the limitations. Great job both of you

Developer

I agree, the gameplay is not great. There is for example no winning or loosing screen as you point out. More types of enemies and weapons would have been nice as well. Thanks for writing and playing our prototype!

Great job on the art and atmosphere! Very legit NES vibes!

Developer

Thanks, we used the NES palette and screen format. All sprites are multiples of 16 pixels. What could be improved is the sound. Currently we use ZzFX for soundFX: https://killedbyapixel.github.io/ZzFX/

The space bar stopped working after I died. Or won, not sure. Game looks cool and I think with more AI it could be a great beatemups type game. Sick entry tho!

Developer

Ah, yes I know about the spacebar issue. I will fix this after the voting period. And I agree, the AI is poor. Thanks for the positive words!

The graphics are the best part, it looks great, there is a bug when the second playtrough you cant attack, but otherwise it works fine, I would recomend also to make the player and the bear spawn points further appart

Developer

Thank you and happy you like the graphics! Of course you are right, the bear and the gladiator should spawn far away from each other. Will fix this after the voting period.
