The puzzle mechanics included here are interesting and original, offering many different ways you can transform the objects. I got stuck on level 3, which suggests that the level design and mechanics could use some additional work. Overall, this is a good entry.

Thank you!!  There's been a couple people who I think were getting stuck on the same spot. There was a block put in the way of the character, but it wasn't very clear that it was there. I have changed the texture to make it more apparent, so hopefully that helps.

Cool mechanic and a great idea to use 3D problem solving skills in a 2D world. I struggled to understand the rotation mechanic at first but once I realised it was happening in 3D space things made sense. I think some objects’ orientation could be more clearly communicated with some more sprites e.g. when a spike is pointing towards the camera. Another thing I struggled to understand was the area of effect for the rotation ability. At first I thought it could be used while standing on an arrow but then later it seemed that wasn’t the case and it was based on proximity to the objects that can be transformed. With these tweaks I think it would be an improvement but it’s already an impressive take on this jam’s theme.

Thank you so much! I appreciate the feedback. You are right, the intent of the arrow blocks was to indicate a range for being able to use the rotation ability, and that range includes standing on them. So if there is somewhere where that is not that case, that is unintentional.

cool concept! Unfortunately I cant pass the first door. the character just jumps when I tried to enter :(
Something that would be great is some kind of animation feedback when rotating the platforms in 3D and 2D.

The intent was that you have to get the snack from inside the chest, and that unlock the door for you :).

I agree. I originally planned to have the platforms animated, but I was having trouble figuring out how to get it to work, so I had to cut it. Maybe I'll have it figured out for next time lol.

Cool concept, I just wish to have more in-game guidance at the beginning, but your description worked just fine.

I got stuck on level 3, although I figured out that I can just jump left from the beginning, but still the door won't open.

Developer

Thank you! Good to know. I do have a goal to learn how to make UI elements by the next jam I do haha.

I'm not sure if you got stuck on a similar part as someone else, but there is a block in front of the stairs so that you can't just jump up them. However I realized that it wasn't that clear there was a block there, so I gave it a different texture.

On level 3 I can't seem to get past the first group of rotatable blocks, I think there might be an invisible block or something. I really like the concept though of having the blocks rotate in 3D while all the graphics are in 2D. I am a big fan of the game FEZ and this reminds me of the mechanics in that game. Also, I love that flipping the chests upside down opens them, I thought that a very unique touch added to the game haha. I would definitely come back to play this game again if/when more polish was added to it, great work overall!

Thank you so much! Yes there is a block so that you can't just walk up the stairs, but it wasn't intended to be invisible. I do see now that it's not very clear there is a block there, so I went in and gave it a different texture.

I actually never knew of the game FEZ until my friend made the same comment to me when I showed this to him haha. I really liked how they use perspective in FEZ, so I might have to give it a play through one of these days.

Nice idea, the game needs some polish and fix (I got stuck "inside" blocks) but it's a very good concept!

Developer

Thank you! Yea I am aware you can get stuck inside, but I'm not sure how to fix that, so I just added a reset button as a workaround.
