The text in this game feel like hitting a raw nerve, its so deeply personal and powerful. The visuals do a lot to support the text. The PS1 aesthetic with its pixelated wobbliness adds to the feeling of decay and warped reality.
However, the gameplay often felt unnecessary. There's only one segment in the game that has any kind of gameplay beyond walking around, which wouldn't be so much of a problem if I felt like I was actually exploring. Instead I was holding down the W (forward) key so long I started to worry I would damage it. The tank controls are fiddly, but that's par for the course with this retro throwback. The camera became a real problem though. I felt like I had to fight with it to get anywhere. At one point the camera straight up broken and was stuck in place, so I had to reset the game.
This game has rough edges, but it shows a great deal of potential. I have no doubt that as this artist's mastery over visual metaphor and storytelling develops (as well as their technical skills), they will make something truly incredible.
