Goofball_Paul rated Sky Rogue

A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

I LOVE THIS! I am at the verge of giving it 5 stars, but there's some design choices I don't like and a few bugs that keep it at 4 stars for me...

Technical issues: Mousewheel doesn't really work well for selecting weapons, and cockpit view has a bunch of issues (only matters if you're a cockpit view tryhard like me heheh) Also game doesn't keep the mouse bound to the screen properly, in spite of setting for that.

Design elements I don't like: Landing for repairs costs money you need for upgrades,  which sucks because you also need to land to simply change your weapons loadout, this limits your playstyle unless you're willing to spend money and get upgrades slower.

You see, some weapons are better for air units, and some weapons are better for ground units. And some airplanes are better suited for dog-fightingt, long range combat, bombing, etc. But if you don't wanna spend money on landing, you'll have to either use weapons and a plane optimal for just your target, or a generalist loadout that lets you do everything so-so. Going all-anti air to erradicate enemy planes, and then switching for a ground strike loadout to destroy ground targets comes at a sacrifice.

Having to pay to repair your aircraft sounds like a good decission, that way you can't just tank hits like a bozo and come in for repairs 20 times per mission... But the way this was implemented disincentives certain play-styles.

I think the game would be better if you were allowed to land, reload, and switch loadouts without repairing, but having to pay for repairs yourself. And maybe only being allowed to pick a few planes at the beginning of the run, and needing to pay for having more planes to switch with (as more planes = less need to repair damaged ones, so if you've unlocked all planes this could be exploited)
