Remember Monster Truck Madness? No? Microsoft release, back in... 1996? It was pretty well received at the time...
Well, I do remember it and similar titles appearing on the N64 and Sony PlayStation. Not that I played that many console-titles at the time, but later on, I have tried out various racing-games of this structure.
I'm not saying that Polymaniacs is necessarily similar to Monster Truck Madness, but it was the first one that sprung to mind, due to the sensation of playing it for the first time - it truly felt as if though this was (yet another) title that could easily have been released back in the mid-late 90's on a contemporary console (or maybe computer).
Polymaniacs has bright, inviting colorful graphics, with excellent sound-design and music. It has a nice variety of levels and play-modes and thanks to its many, many tracks it can keep you going for a long time, without necessarily being too frustratingly long, nor bloated by unnecessary fluff.
The variety of vehicles is such a lovely addition and they all have very nice controls, all of them handle differently and a lot of them have some kind of 'special ability'.
The terrain and vehicle-physics play along just perfectly and everything here has been taken into account with regards to gravity and hit-boxes and what-have-you-not.
This is once again, pure arcade-y racing fun, but this time delivered in excellent 3D, with enough varying gameplay and the ability to play multiple people on one screen, simply makes this a must-have.
Much like Stevie G.'s other racing-games, this is the perfect game to just boot up and play for anything from 3 minutes to an hour at the time.
Graphics, sound and music all makes this an audiovisual treat that does not get tiring. Great controls with sweet physics and mechanics, coupled with varying gameplay, a good A.I. and a sense of achievement and progression makes this game a must-have for all fans of the genre.
