ARC Might be my Game of the Year for 2021. It's a gorgeous book, it's so easy to read, as well as being well-written, and it contains so many really interesting ideas.
I also said on Twitter, and I'll repeat it here: I wish ARC had been the first game I'd ever tried to run. The writing is so clean, but also so personable, that I walked away from reading it feeling like I had everything I needed to run the game. If I had players ready, I wouldn't be worried about being unprepared.
It was a refreshing feeling that I haven't really had with any other TTRPGs. A lot of books, especially from larger publishers, feel very dense and impenetrable. It feels like you need to do hours of prep before everyone's going to have a good time.
Reading ARC feels like sitting down with a friend who explains the game in plain language, and tells you everything you need to know not only to play, but to have a ball.
Also, one of the starting equipment options is a Telepathic Yak. Which is something I didn't know I needed until it existed.
