superobot1 rated 8Gauge: Shotgun Shells and Questionable Ethics

superobot1 rated a 8Gauge 4 years ago
A downloadable 8Gauge for Windows.

Beautiful, frenzied chaos.
That is the only way I can describe this game- the main reason I'm rating it 5 stars is because I love the way the dev approached fast action gameplay. While other games encourage tactical cover usage, this game gives you defense for moving around! It's not that dodging is not a good idea. It's just that you should never stop moving while doing so. And shooting. And switching the shells you're using.

You enter rooms with a hail of bullets. Each and every enemy on the map is shooting at you at the same time. But you keep shooting. You keep dodging snipers, you keep whittling them down one by one. And then, you win.

Don't go in expecting a "fully polished product". This is not about that. It's a free game, and a lot of tiny things can be improved, or so it feels- for example, the button layout and menu navigation feels a bit messy sometimes, I disliked the platforming (just jumping while fighting, there are no platforming sections). There are no nice screen transitions, the game just plops you into levels after you click them. Certain things feel amateur-ish, and perhaps could remind you a bit of old flash games, but not in a bad way.

Do go in if you're expecting a game with a SOUL, a rock & roll sound track, and some fun, FAST chaos.
