Adelaide Rieck rated A Normal Lost Phone

A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android.

As a trans person, the plot itself could get a bit hokey. It's sweet, but feels at times surface level, if in a way that clearly comes from someone who knows and cares about the trans community. But fine, some of our stories are hokey, the game isn't just it's plot, yeah? How you get through it, the line by line writing, the puzzles, etc.

For one I love the concept, the phone interface. Simple, and amazing. Also I imagine makes it all the better to plan making mobile version of when you can map it so cleanly on screen proportion. The way music was handled was cute. And the puzzles! I keep a notebook by my side when I stream games for things like this and it's a nice way to look back on how fun they were. Though the dd/mm mm/dd date settings tripped me up a little.

So many details you could technically skip that fleshed out the characters and their conflicts. So many you're given enough of a peak into early on to  take an educated guess at Long before you see the full details, for those you do see. Honestly I'd say the text messages you can binge in the 'early game' are a good microcosm for the game's writing, seeing the nuances of characters and their relationships and what's straining them all. Perhaps I should play it's sequel after all...
