No surprises or unsuspected twists (at least for me) but still kinda kafkaesque or at least surreal.
I like the story, writing and illustrations. The pdf is 33 pages long and includes a few fullpage illustrations, a foreword, big headlines, making the text of the story itself around 23 pages long, nice for a short reading.
$5,- US is a kinda steep price, but it's definitely worth at least some money, so if you can't afford that, maybe look out for a bundle to get it in (i got it in the bundle for racial justice and equality back in 2020). Illustrations are expensive and authors need to eat too though, hence it's not really that high.
spoilers ahead, you've been warned:
izzy, a chronical anxious person, got some gift card for a feline therapy weekend from sasha. Coming with them to some kind of cat café like store and not seeing any cats while walking into the back for the therapy, kinda gave away to me the cat's not there yet. Through some magic izzy unknowingly (sasha didn't disclose all there is to the place) gets turned into a cat, experiences having not to worry for the first time in a long period of time and (not surprisingly) the therapists have trouble turning them back. The need to turn themself back to comfort sasha (who always was a beacon of comfort for izzy and cared for cat-izzy for a whole year), when they seem to give up, though makes izzy unconsciously turn themself back.
The whole story is written from izzys perspective and apart from assumingly getting a tiny cat fact wrong (afawk they have a need for a higher room temperature which could be interpreted into them experiencing temperatures we call comfortable as too cold) every description from cat-izzys perspective seems plausible, and factoring the obvious existence of magic into the thing any discrepancies might just be caused by that.
