Hazelnoot rated Project Cappuccino

Hazelnoot rated a game 5 years ago
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS.

Great game overall! The story is interesting and well written, and it integrates cleanly with the sex parts of the game. Characters are believable, dynamic, and well-designed. Sex scenes are reasonably realistic and interactive, with smooth animations.

I especially liked the fact that the game has not just multiple endings, but also multiple distinct paths through the story. The choices you make can lead you through a large amount of distinct scenes, dialogue, and optional content. Its definitely worth replaying multiple times to explore the different options.

The game is only partially voice acted, but the voice acting  itself is   excellent. Definitely the best voice acting of any sex game that I've played, and to be honest it holds up well against most regular games too. The only possible criticism  is that the audio balance is occasionally off. There were a few scenes where one or more characters was noticeably quieter than the rest, but it was never a major issue.

I think an opportunity was missed to better integrate the cafe supervisor role with the rest of the game.  It is connected in a few ways - mainly as a source of income to buy toys - but I think it would have been better if the stress and "preferred task" mechanics were connected to the character standing mechanic. Currently, there is no real downside to maxing out each character's stress to squeeze every last drop of profit out of them. Its very easy to completely reset a character's stress level, and sometimes its possible to reset two or even three characters between shifts. This could be mitigated somewhat if post-shift stress level represented a negative hit to a character's standing. I also found that it was often more profitable to ignore a character's preferred task in favor of completing a few more tasks for the day. That could also be mitigated by providing a positive boost to standing if a preferred task is assigned.

Throughout several hours of playing, I noticed one typo and encountered one crash. I did lose progress due to the crash, but it only reset me to the start of the chapter and I was able to proceed normally after that. The only bugs I noticed were  extremely mild and in contrived situations. This is honestly quite good considering the size of the game relative to the size of the dev team.

Something worth noting is that this is  a Unity game, and as such it suffers from the infamous Unity-Citrix bug. If you encounter an Access Violation error on startup, and you also use Citrix Receiver, Citrix Workspace, or any other screen-sharing application, then you may be able to fix it by following these steps:

  1. Install Project Cappuccino (or whatever game is affected)
  2. Uninstall Citrix Receiver and any other screen sharing software
  3. Reboot your computer
  4. Run Project Cappuccino and  go at least as far as the main menu (the in-game main menu - the initial settings screen doesn't count)
  5. Close Project Cappuccino
  6. Reinstall Citrix Receiver
  7. Reboot again
  8. That's it, the game should work now! The fix will be permanent for Project Cappuccino, but you will need to repeat these steps any time you install a new Unity-based game.

Its pretty convoluted, but to my knowledge that is the only reliable way to work around this bug. To be clear- this is NOT a bug in Project Cappuccino or in any way caused by Tentakero. This is a well-known issue with Unity Engine itself, that unfortunately happens to affect Project Cappuccino.
