This is an awesome, no frills, 2D video game API.  You'll get what you need: a dirt-simple API capable of writing games with. 

I've tried using other game engines to write hobbyist, spare-time, games in the past and lost steam before I even got into the interesting part of the game implementation.

Caveat: This isn't Unity or another game "ecosystem" - it's a multi platform video game API.  Grab your favorite text editor (I use Visual Studio with a Ruby plug in) and get to it.
