I love this game!! I noticed the recent trend of "organize books" games with the Arcane Librarian game on steam, but unfortunately the 3d first person pov style of that game gives me a massive headache whenever i play. SO! Finding THIS game, which does a very similar thing but without pain, i am OVERJOYED!
I absolutely adore the clever pixel art of all the book spines. The similar-but-noticeably-different styles for completely unrelated subjects (i've been pretending they were all under the same publisher lol) is a great way to add complexity without adding too much frustration or having it feel unfair.
Similarly, the way some titles incorporate multiple shelf subjects (like "Poems for the King") is a fun lil difficulty twist made forgiving by the shelves letting you know when you're wrong. (Though admittedly some do seem like a stretch, and it often seems as though Architecture and Engineering are indistinguishable based on title alone).
My first playthrough I decided not to use the bots because I wanted to do it myself and I felt very quick even just with the shelving boosts! I'm really looking forward to the full version so I can see how it gets more interesting with the upgrades.
My only notes/suggestions for improvement are: when the skill mentions the "leftmost column stack" it doesnt seem to shift to the next leftmost if I then get rid of that leftmost stack (though I admit I could have just missed it); also, I'd love to be able to hover over completed shelves to see the titles of the books there--the way the upgrades play, by the endgame the shelves all but complete themselves, and you can't remove a book from a completed shelf--it would be nice to see the titles the dev(s) put so much effort into.
And maybe these are part of the skill upgrades, but it would also be cool if we had the option to shift the book stacks together to fill any empty middle column spaces, and also if we could hold click to shelve books as well as when putting them back in the stacks.
Overall I really enjoyed my few hours with this game and I'm looking forward to killing more time at work with it again! Thanks a bunch!
