bix1521 rated Hero Generations

bix1521 rated a Hero Generations 5 years ago
A downloadable Hero Generations for Windows and macOS.

Its an ok game; I've played like 3-4 new games, with between 10-17 generations each, won 0 games though got close in one. Mechanic Wise its good on paper, but actually playing it isn't much fun.

Starting a new run is the worst because your character is stuck waiting 10 generations to get all the building.  I enjoyed that certain buildings together created special towns and discovering new ones was always a joy, it was a shame that i had to spend an hour trying to get to that part. And when the demon lord was revived at level 10 on my first run, I assumed my game was or would be over in 1-5 generations; but it didn't so a little confused there.

The generational Trait system is ok, I liked the different rarity of people and how some aspects of character creation goes into town management. And even if you get a bad stat generation; there are buildings to fix that. I think my main problem is the growth of a generation gets too repetitive or too slow. A child cant grow that fast and i felt most generations die without contributing anything, which i hate because its just 20-30 minutes of doing nothing.

I liked the buildings and creating good towns. There was a good variety and most work together. I think collecting resources from individual buildings was slow and wasteful of life, it would be great if i could just go to the central town to collect. I liked the building degrading system, i wish there was a way to repair with gold though.

The different worlds was fun and there was some good events in each world to make them unique. The bus station part could use more refining, I never tried linking 3 stations together but if there isn't something like that, there should be.

Combat itself was ok; it was doable and I really liked the aspect of that part of the game. Grinding stats though is awful and frustrating. There was a good variety of items that made it fun IN combat but in practice not really.

The honor system sucks but has potential. I feel certain milestones should follow all generations as overall progress. I like how it gates more powerful mates though which incentivies getting better but resetting to 0 every time isnt that great. I did like how some events in the plains world activate only when an honor milestone is passed.

There was a wide variety of items which was great; but the lack of a trash system flooded the worlds with too much items and trash; and the two inventory limit was the worst. I feel key items like boats, rock smashers, ect should go into a free slot, maybe as possible boss rewards. Limiting weapons and shields to 2 slots is good and seems balanced for combat. Keys, totems, possibly unequipped weapons, and other items could also take a different inveontory of 2-3 items.

The max resolution was small; I know changing the devices resolution is a solution but i feel that isnt an acceptable fix.

Overall, it was an ok game but wouldn't recommend
