deepbluefeeling rated Pica Complex

A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Pica complex is a great first foray into VNs, with excellent presentation... held back by some unfortunate narrative and writing decisions. The set up with the pica, the reason for seeing the psychiatrist, the various substances Rory has trouble with. The character voices are all strong, and I think the first third or so of the VN is really strongly done. Brenton is a bit too overly familiar for a therapist, Rory is clearly a bit desperate The reveal into Brenton being half conversion therapist half chaser sets an incredibly intense tone, with a really provoking standoff between the two........................

that is immediately shot dead by eatin Batsune Biku Anastesia. Like, I get the reason for it, the manifestation, the set up for the gagging/vomit scene but... I was laughing. It's just so absurd that it's funny. Girl you need to go to the emergency room. I think the lack of perspective on the size of the dolls makes it really hard to believe she's swallowing these porcelain cupie equivalents whole. This is followed up by I assume the deadlines catching up, because there's a lengthy, repetitive sequence with Rory gagging everything up. It's gross, but any of the erotica and horror is lost when we see it the second time. It's like fingering, it's like blasting a pussy, it's like sex, and violation, and it's pretty clear that that's what it is, so it's unfortunate that the text feels the need to tell us explicitly instead of letting the imagery stand on its own. The first third of the game is great! But after losing all its tension via the miku vore, it just fails to find its feet again.

(Also as a personal note, a therapist, psychiatrist, psychologist, and counselor, are all different things, and should not be used interchangeably. Brenton is a psychiatrist, which is a full on medical degree, and she should probably being going by doctor instead of miss. I assume miss is there because it's... hotter? or to let us know she's not married? But pretty much everyone goes by doctor if they're being called by their last name since it's a shit ton of work.)
