Gypsy Wizard Games rated Crocotile 3D

A downloadable software for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

I really like this; the only alternative for the vibe I'm going for is Trenchbroom, and using that for game design is a hot mess. The controls are...unique, but become more intuitive once understood. That being said, the camera controls aren't my thing, but it's easy enough to modify them. The two big issues I've found are the inability to snap to axis using the ViewCube or top row number keys (think Blender's use of their cube, and how they emulate a numpad), and not being able to bucket fill a color transparent (like Aseprite).

Understand this is not meant as a negative review. Crocotile is a really great program with great use cases; It helps simplify UV editing and hastens level design, while providing an interesting aesthetic, just be sure you have your tilemap correct before importing it (the painting function seems better suited to modifying existing tilesets instead of outright creating them) and give the controls some time. Also, the crosshairs move with WSAD, which changes the point of reference; it's mindblowing how important that is to learn.

Kudos,

G.W.
