This game is...in one word, spectacular. I'm a big fan of historical fiction (and romance...) and while this isn't technically historical, it almost seems as if it is. Very WW1, which I think was the author's idea. I chose to review Act 2 because it was at this point that I was really drawn in to the series.
The world-building is amazing. Clearly the author put a lot of thought into the cultures that are at war- I noticed that each country, although fictional, had a distinct correlation to real-world countries. For example Wessling and their "Kaiser" are distinctly German. With names like Elfriede, Gottfried, Otto, Wolf, etc. Leyland is England, Etgoes is Netherlands (Dutch origin?) , and Levasseur is French. Might not be the author's intent, but that was a takeaway of mine that made me appreciate the game even more!
World-building aside, the plot has so much depth. While yes, there is a romantic aspect to the game, the game does not center around it. In fact, in most situations, you'd truly believe that the conversation between the characters might have happened during wartime. It's also refreshing that you have multiple opportunities to change routes, based on what happens....but to keep this spoiler-free, I'll stop there.
Elfriede really lets her personality shine in Act 2. She's witty, funny, and yet very realistically human, which allows me to really identify with her. Go Elfriede!
Ultimately, this game won't disappoint you. The art is OK, which is why I was initially hesitant to download it, but man do you get your money's worth in plot and personality! Warning though: I emphasize that this is REALISTIC, and in wartime...stuff happens. Gut-wrenching, but it compels you to move forward.
I can't wait for part 3. :)
