Yttreia rated Frankie's Fun House: Chapter 1 Demo

Yttreia rated a game 19 days ago
A downloadable game for Windows.

On the whole, it's a pretty neat little demo (ch1 demo v2), though the pacing needs work and the gameplay-to-lewd balance is off.

The demo is effectively split into three "zones": work, home, circus.
Work, it's just busywork (haha). Some plot stuff, lots of wandering around, probably clicking on random things, inspecting things, though most of it is just flavor and a lot of "go to point A, then B, then A, then C, then A then B. There is a few hidden lewd bits like a short inflation comic and a poster, but that's about all you get here. At the end is a "boss" that plays like WarioWare, and there's a couple belly gags, though the WW segment needs a bit of polish.
Home is more of the ABACAB thing I mentioned above, half the segment's spent making Cup Noodles and the other half is flipping 4 switches from off to on, then typing a phone number into a phone. Nothing lewd here minus a bugged (soon to be fixed) inflation scene at the end, not even really any puzzles either.
Circus, I feel it's probably the "vertical slice", as it's all-in on the point and click, and there's an actual fail state. Puzzles, do A to get B so you can C and then D to unlock 1 of 4 hints to solve the main puzzle, then finish everything to complete the final code. The only lewd bits are a subtle bit of WG from stuffing, and the bad end (a mostly static full-body inflation scene that probably could've been framed better). Solving the main puzzle and one final braindead easy "puzzle" leads you to the "go support the Kickstarter" bit and the credits.

Do I like the demo? Ehhhh. I mainly just wish it didn't take as long as it did, there's too much padding and too many distractions, especially in the office segment.
Also it's a pretty poor vertical slice, it feels more like ideas thrown against a wall, and the only actual vertical slice bit is the circus.
I guess I also wish there was a chapter select, but I don't think there is one.

I'd rate a 3, but I bumped it to 4 just because the game's got style.
There's a few hidden collectables to find in the demo, I'll have to replay it once to see if collecting them all unlocks anything.
