DeanDLean rated Aim to Capture

DeanDLean rated a game 24 days ago
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android.

Most everything is great - great writing, great production values, great experience.

Now notes.

1. It's not scary. It's just not. The "scary_face.png" moments are goofy more than they are frightening. My guess is that's because you tried too hard to keep them within the same visual style as the rest of the game and that's... Unnecessary. It would actually be more scary if they didn't fit. You should lean harder into the way creepy art usually looks.

2. Different traits too often lead to the same outcome, which makes me think you didn't need to have so many of them. Maybe make them evolve into each other instead of just unlocking more and more traits that do the same thing? Have empathy turn to eloquence(empathy already unlocks manipulation), indifference to edginess(not caring about stuff turns into not caring for the consequences), anxiety to delirium(they ARE after me!), and wit to scepsis(the more you know, the more you realize the scale of your ignorance).

3. Unskippable scenes are annoying on replay. And since this VN actively invites replay, it takes away from the experience. It's weird they are unskippable, with how the  mini-games were made skippable on a second playthrough for that exact reason.

4. Speaking of time wasting, the mind game where you connect two concepts to unlock new ones is a bit tedious. It would work better if it was more like the mind map from Pathologic 2, if you are familiar - this way it would show clearly which concepts are already unlocked, and which direction the player should move and from where to unlock the next.

5. It's a little too easy to put the clues together while on the corporate computer, especially after you unlock a couple of hints through pixel hunt parts.
