mrflatwoods rated Midnight Scenes: Among Graves

A downloadable game for Windows.

The storytelling just really wasn't here with this one. I honestly feel betrayed. All this buildup of repeated generational pain and trauma, almost as if the story is building up to the characters working together to dismantle the curse that binds them, and support each other so that they can heal, but what we end up getting is a suicidal alcoholic who loses her entire family being magically cured by single motherhood (because her life has no meaning otherwise) in a melodrama where death is as meaningful as a shaky skype chat connection. The bloodline is forever doomed by their ancestors and it's fine because Yay, Babies. I'm going to be sick. I really thought it was going to end with the characters somehow finding a way to break the curse and forfeit their psychic powers, but at the cost of them and the town having to come to peace with no longer having a mailman deliver their messages to the other side and live the rest of their lives with that shadow of doubt. I really thought that's what it was building to. The previous game handled suicide, denial, and tragedy so well, and this one just... took off in the worst possible direction. It's really a shame because I've loved every one of these games up to this point. I don't think I'll stick around for the next one.
