The beginning of the game gives great hopes of being able to progress the game in a way that allows for focusing on particular aspects (damage per character, resource upgrading focus, etc) but once you get passed the first area, the upgrades start to show just how stagnant the progression is. The desert has walls that block all attacks besides the enemies (even though the wizard literally has an ability to pierce) and I personally do not like low crit chances so I ignored that path up until after unlocking the knight and then saw there was an ability on that path to break walls... That is honestly the point that I went from "okay this demo has promise" to "oh the developer wants things to go in a certain way..."
Also, the limited amount of damage able to be bought really just forces the player to buy guild slots which then requires upgrading others which would be good if one of the characters wasn't required to reduce the resource grind. bad taste
