I really enjoyed this game's concept, style, and characters!
I struggled a bit with the safe code because I was expecting to find an actual date hidden somewhere, not infer what the date was based on the diary, as that's how it's been in games I've played in the past, but other than that it was clear what the game wanted me to do at different points. I also wish there had been a few more fleshed out interactions with Gabriel and Calcite and that the game had overall been longer. But since this game is free, the story I did get was more than worth the time spent playing it and I was compelled to get every ending. Speaking of endings, here are my more spoilery thoughts on those!
Calcite: I love he/him butch representation (I've actually never seen it in a game before this one) and Calcite was the most endearing to me, I love that he had a past with Rutile and was trying to look out for her in his own way, but also that he seemed to enjoy being the one to bury her!
Gabriel: Another he/him butch, yay! Definitely the one I wish I had more interaction after his introduction, but I loved the ending of Rutile becoming Alle as a twisted mirror of the rags-to-riches Cinderella story and how Gabriel is just vibing with it so long as his queen is happy! I like how uncertain it is as to whether he will eventually betray her or not.
Alle: Cinderella herself, one whose fairy godmother never came! She's such a fun character, and her giving Rutile the key in the envelope knowing she would eventually come back is chilling. I love how her ending really called out the inequality between her and Rutile, with Rutile making the excellent point that of course she's nice to Alle, Alle is her livelihood! Even when she comes back, it's out of a desire to not be left starving out in the cold, incredibly understandable! And yet there IS this horrible emotional entanglement between them, shown by the beautiful art of their embrace. I absolutely adore how it ends with the painting of Rutile, the only evidence she existed in a world that doesn't care to remember those without status, and even then she is reduced to a mysterious muse.
